JOB SUMMARY

The City of Sandpoint is hiring the following seasonal Parks Maintenance Workers for the following:
Two (2) 8-month positions,
Two (2) 7-month positions,
One (1) 6-month position.

The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform a wide range of tasks ranging from general labor activities to highly skilled tasks relating to the upkeep of park and recreation facilities as well as public buildings and open space. Employee reports directly to a Parks Maintenance Worker or the Park Building and Grounds Supervisor. Work is performed in public buildings and an outdoor environment that may expose the employee to adverse weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, excessive noise, or potential personal danger. Duties may require some evening, weekend, holiday and/or on-call work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Performs specific duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains turf, trees, shrubbery, flowers, and docks.
  • Operates heavy and light trucks, tractors with attachments, riding mowers, and a variety of power tools.
  • Performs maintenance and upkeep on various motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Installs, monitors, maintains and repairs irrigation systems.
  • Paints and applies stain.
  • Performs janitorial and structural maintenance of buildings.
  • Performs plow and shovel work.
  • Loads and unloads a variety of products and items.
  • Prepares a wide variety of sport fields for play.
  • Maintains aspects of daily operations for sport field complexes.
  • Constantly observes and monitors park space and structures for safety and wear.
  • Attends training classes and workshops as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Assists other staff with assignments and duties as necessary;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Physical Demands
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items noted below are representative of the physical skills and abilities deemed necessary to perform these duties:
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive motions in fingering and hand/wrist/arm movements. Related job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommodation, lifting or moving up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally lifting or moving up to 65 pounds.
  • Employee must possess sufficient body mobility, flexibility, stamina, and balance to perform operational and maintenance tasks which require stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing and working on ladders, working in enclosed and confined spaces.
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, work orders, technical and operational documents, blueprints close vision and distance vision.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, communication with other employees and the public, and discern warning or emergency alarms, including vehicle backup warnings.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and must possess sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of power and hand tools and to make adjustments to equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually high when using equipment associated with: building, demolition, and maintenance.
  • Travel associated with this position requires driving or riding in a motor vehicle or other method of transportation.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in performing semi-skilled maintenance or construction tasks.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work of a Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker.

Special Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license.


This is a non-benefited temporary or seasonal position, or it is a limited part-time position that does not include City of Sandpoint benefits, such as health insurance, sick leave, vacation leave, etc.
