Pay: $19-21/hr

Department : Orthopedics
Overview Serves as initial person to greet, instruct and direct all patients visiting or calling the surgical center - utilizing skills of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in a professional manner. Greets patients and public, checking patients in for their procedures, answers telephones, verifies and updates registration and collects payments. Interact frequently with clinicians and staff.
ACCOUNTABILITIES: (include, but are not limited to)
- Greet patients that arrive according to established protocol. Assist patient with any ambulatory difficulties.
- Check in patients, verify and update all demographic information in computer and/or medical record and collection of co-payments resulting in proper cash reconciliation.
- Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages and provide information in accordance with established protocol.
- Provide additional clerical support as assigned, when needed.
- Closeout procedure, gathering of encounter forms, processing daily activities.
- Maintain patient reception area in neat and orderly manner.
- Perform a variety of computer functions in support of specific responsibilities.
- Attend required meetings/in-services and participate in committees as requested.
- Screen visitors and respond to routine requests for information.
- Preparing charts for upcoming surgical procedures.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality of medical/company information.
- Be knowledgeable and follow all HIPAA Regulations.
- Keeping nurses informed when patients arrive for their procedure
- As needed, will support other departments in a similar capacity to this role
- Others duties, as assigned
KNOWLEDGE: - Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of software products, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and/or other search engines on the web
- Working knowledge of office equipment and Software
- Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies
- Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette
- Understanding of electronic medical systems
QUALIFICATIONS: - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate professionally (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone)
- Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties
- Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts
