This job is primarily responsible for traveling to various company locations to perform a variety of tasks related to the upkeep and repair of facility equipment, assisting with facility projects, and developing and training less experienced employees in facility maintenance. Job duties performed include significant travel and working outside of normal working hours.
In this job, you will:

Actual responsibilities will vary depending on daily needs and type of facility.

  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attends daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); including wearing appropriate PPE for task being performed.
  • Perform daily walk-through of facility and equipment, plan and prioritize day based on facility needs and manager input.
  • Actively participate in site upgrades and projects; working with contractors as applicable.
  • Troubleshoot reported or discovered mechanical and/or equipment issues; make determination on how to correct and recommend/train/or perform repairs or replace defective parts or requests assistance as needed.
  • Work with site management to purchase maintenance materials.
  • Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.
  • Perform general housekeeping and clean-up of work area during and after task is completed.
  • Utilize understanding of industry standards and research information to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Makes recommendations for preventative maintenance and train staff at site.
  • Other duties as assigned; such as attending continuing education, performing highly skilled maintenance tasks (electrical, fabrication, welding, cutting, blue print reading, etc. as applicable).


Here's what you'll need to be considered:

Education

Required - High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent experience.

Experience

Required - Experience with mechanical maintenance, welding, cutting, and fabrication; including experience in leading others.

Preferred - Previous experience in mechanical maintenance and electrical experience.

License/Certification

Required - Valid driver's license and ability to meet company auto insurance requirements.

Preferred - Mechanical Maintenance Certificate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced level of understanding of mechanical maintenance, knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Basic mathematical skills (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to follow direction and to use logical thought process to interpret oral and written instructions and recommend alternative solutions to mechanical problems.
  • Ability to apply common sense and logical thought process to interpret oral and written communications and recommend alternative solutions to mechanical problems.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned task.
  • Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.

Physical Demands & Requirements

Ability to lift/push/pull 45 lbs. occasionally.

Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel and balance.

Manual dexterity e.g., ability to grasp, manipulate and assemble small objects.

Arm/hand steadiness and multi-limb coordination.

Ability to safely walk on barge surface(s) and on top of railcars.

Ability to climb ladders and perform work at significant heights.

Ability to work in confined spaces and around deep water.

Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.

Ability to work in an environment with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products.

Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person and over two-way radio.

Ability to meet requirement of and utilize all applicable PPE, when applicable.

Ability to work extended hours, weekend, holidays and/or alternate shifts as needed.

Uses near, far and peripheral vision and depth perception for task(s) being performed.

Environmental Conditions

The work environment described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.

Exposure to such conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes, or skin.

80% or more through the week, includes being home most weekends. This may include off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.
