The *School Based Mental Health Worker* provides one-on-one & group interventions to a child or adolescent in school when the child or adolescent s behavior without this intervention would require a more restrictive treatment or educational setting. The School Based Mental Health Worker works as part of a treatment team, which may include a classroom teacher, guidance counselor, Instructional Support Team teacher, school psychologist, principal, and/or CGRC Program Supervisor. Daily work performed by the School Based Mental Health Worker is monitored by the treatment team.

Mental Health Workers work with students, teachers, parents, and administrators to provide caring mental health support and increase a holistic understanding of students and families needs so they can thrive both in school & at home.
Some job responsibilities include:
* Coordinate with the education staff of assigned classroom in initial and ongoing assessments or students of classroom.
* Review IEP's, behavior plans, and any other documentation as a method of understanding the child and/or adolescent.
* Utilize assessment phase as a method of developing a therapeutic relationship with child/adolescent.
* Support and facilitate the educational staff in their implementation of the IEP prescribed for the child or adolescent.
* Provide specific therapeutic support services including crisis intervention techniques, immediate behavioral reinforcements, emotional support, time-structuring activities, and time-out strategies.
* Demonstrate therapeutic relationship skills including an understanding of boundary issues and confidentiality. Able to form therapeutic alliances with adults, teenagers, and children.
* Attend to issues of cultural, racial, ethnic, and gender diversity as they impact the course of treatment.
* Provide counseling that is relevant to the needs of the child/adolescent as stated in their treatment plan/IEP.
