Asset Protection Associate Job Description

The Asset Protection Associate, under the direction of his/ her Asset Protection Specialist, is responsible for the protection of the Company's assets in his/her jurisdiction:

Administrative:

  • Follow proper timecard procedures.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and review discrepancies with Store Management Team and Asset Protection Manager.
  • Follow scheduled hours, any changes must be approved by your Asset Protection Manager.
  • Complete travel expenses and attach timecard to verify travel.


Monitors Store for Customer/ Associate Apprehensions:

  • Surveys store for apprehension of shoplifters.
  • Apprehends and detains shoplifters, dishonest associates and or vendors.
  • Conducts interviews related to incidents of theft.
  • Completes all apprehension records and reports.
  • Submits requests for additional data to completed investigation of a suspected loss, fraud, theft, or dishonesty.
  • Represents Company in court as necessary.
  • Complete HIPPA certification


Monitors Front End/ Service Desk for Policy Violations:

  • Observes cashier performance for adherence to procedures and informs Store Manager of any violations.
  • Provides counterfeit detection training to front-end associates and monitors usage of counterfeit detection units to reduce losses.
  • Monitors transactions for collusions, monetary theft, coupon theft.
  • Evaluates cashier over/shorts for potential cashier issues in conjunction with Lane Accountability.
  • Reviews refund reports available from Shrink Trax as well as Shrink Trax alerts to identify patterns of loss for further investigation.
  • Monitors Associate and vendor purchase procedures, receipt checks
  • Spot checks store transfers, returns to vendors and receiving.


Assures Adherence to Internal Safety Standards:

  • Reports OSHA safety violations to Store Manager.
  • Participates in safety and accident prevention meetings for Associates.
  • Completes Compactor Audits
  • Knowledge of the Bloodborne Pathogen Standards
  • Inspects interior/ exterior of building for physical security issues.


Assures Adherence to Internal Security Standards:

  • Conducts spot checks of perimeter/ 6 p.m. perimeter alarm systems.
  • Tours perimeter of store daily; checking on exits, alarms, storage trailers and areas where merchandise could be concealed.
  • Coordinates and conducts periodic locker checks with another member of management as per locker check procedure.
  • Conducts random parcel/purchase checks at direction the Asset Protection Manager
  • Conducts tests of the emergency exit door to ensure local and burglar alarm is functional as per design.


Participates In Total Store Operations:

  • Trains existing and new Asset Protection Associates as assigned.
  • Meets with Store Manager and Asset Protection Manager on a regular basis to report store compliance with safety and security standards.
  • Continuing training of Store Operations with Store Associates on request.
  • Complete the Asset Protection Refocus program and drive results to reduce shrink and improve compliance to AP initiatives.


Equipment Operation:

  • Having full knowledge of CCTV equipment
  • Knowledge of the Shrink Trax data mining tool


These functions require the ability to monitor the store paging system, use a two-way radio effectively, and to question suspects and record their answers accurately. In addition, Asset Protection Associates must be able to monitor the store cameras. Apprehensions require that Asset Protection Associates be mobile and can monitor suspects throughout the sales floor.

An important aspect of an Asset Protection Associate's position is the ability to perform his/her work undetected by suspected shoplifters.

Asset Protection Associates must be able to review the contents of the trailers that pull up to the loading dock, and they must be able to check on various alarm systems.
