Description

Front End Supervisor

Substitute position, July 22 through October 21, 2024 - to help with coverage for absences during an employee's leave of absence

Purpose: To assist and support manager and assistant manager in achieving the most successful level of daily front end operations. Work with manager and assistant manager to supervise and provide cashiers with tools to ensure the highest level of customer service.

Status: Reports to Front End Manager

Pay Level 5

Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

  • Treat customers fairly, consistently, and with respect.
  • Provide prompt, efficient, friendly and informative service according to established customer service vision and standards.
  • Assist customers with questions, request, and complaints in a prompt and professional manner and ensure that accurate information is provided.
  • Model a high level of customer service.

Cashiering:
  • Supervise check out activities as time allows to ensure that cashiers provide excellent customer service.
  • Inform cashiers of changes relative to product information, policies and procedures affecting cashiering.
  • Ensure that cashiers are available to check out customers.
  • Schedule daily breaks and ensure that breaks are followed in a timely manner.
  • Provide back up and support to cashiers to help resolve problems.
  • Assign cashiers front end tasks keeping in mind that customer check out is their first priority.
  • Work cashier shifts as needed.
  • Supervise, participate in, assist, and support the curbside program when necessary.
  • Be responsible for safety in the workplace by creating a safe work environment, reporting safety concerns to a manager or member of the Safety Committee, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow department policies and procedures.

Money Handling:
  • Ensure accuracy and security of accounting for all tenders received through the front end including handling of cash drawers, daily deposits, change order requests, keys and change drawer accountability
  • Authorize checks, off registers electronic transactions, store credits and rain checks

Personnel:
  • Assist manager and assistant manager with training/education of cashiers.
  • Supervise cashiers and baggers per HMC policies.
  • Fill in unexpected gaps in schedule due to call outs.

Qualifications:
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Attention to details.
  • Team builder.
  • Ability to stay calm and have a good sense of humor.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Flexibility in hours.
  • Ability to follow the safety policies and procedures of Hunger Mountain Co-op.
  • Ability to provide excellent service to customers, vendors and coworkers.
  • Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork and constant communication are essential.
  • Ability to be physically present onsite at the Co-op to perform the requirements of this position.
