**SUMMARY**

As a Forklift mechanic, you are responsible for keeping forklifts in safe, working order. You may conduct inspections, order parts, make repairs, handle preventative maintenance, troubleshoot problems, and keep daily logs. You are also in charge of making sure each forklift you service remains in good working order, has a long operating life, and operates safely. When problems occur, you are the first to be called upon to fix them and you are expected to know what to do to fix them. You may have to examine an engine that is not firing, correct issues with the wheels, or handle cosmetic issues, such as rust spots developing on the exterior.

****ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/** other duties as assigned**

* Running diagnostics

* Repair methods

* Regular inspections and scheduled maintenance on forklifts and other heavy equipment

* Investigate the problem of the forklift and consult operating manuals in order to figure out what works needs to be done

* Complete any repairs that are needed such, as repairing worn-out machine parts, etc.

* Daily logs

* Know how to operate specific mechanical systems including electronics, hydraulics, air brakes, and instrumentation.

* Inspects forklift truck fleet to ensure trucks are working properly and safely.

* Identifies any forklift trucks that need repairs.

* Removes unsafe equipment from facility operating area and notifies supervisor.

* Repairs and maintains various types of forklift trucks including electric, gas-powered, and propane-powered.

* Tests forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly

* Schedules and performs routine maintenance for forklift trucks.

* Maintains repair log for forklift truck fleet.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

****KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS****

* Ability to use hand and power tools to repair forklift trucks.

* Ability to read repair manuals for various types of forklift trucks.

* Excellent mechanical repair skills.

* Ability to follow instructions.

* Analytical and problem-solving skills.

* High school diploma or equivalent required.

* Completion of forklift truck mechanics training course required

* High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Five years of experience working with hydraulics, electrical, propane, gas, and diesel fuel systems.
