The Director of Finance position will provide senior leadership to our nonprofit clients, manage internal accounting teams, oversee monthly client deliverables, prepare annual audits and budgets, assist with HR issues, periodically serve in an interim management role with clients, and provide high-level advising and strategic support. This is a great opportunity for an mid-career professional looking to level up toward a CFO role, or a seasoned pro looking to create more value and in search of a lot more flexibility. Also great for anyone who wants to make more meaning during their working hours.
Salary range $90k - $110k annually. Remote first ( some on-site may be required ), 35 hour work week, unlimited vacation, flexible scheduling, pro work / life balance, health benefits and 3% retirement matching after six months

About The Position
Responsibilities
This position will join our team at a Director of Finance level
Financial Reporting
You ll help our clients get the most out of their data with branded financial reports
Monthly Close
You will provide oversight for monthly close procedures and the delivery of regular financial reports. You will also build ad hoc and customized reports as needed
Forecasting
Historical financials can only tell you so much. You will help clients look into the future to manage cash flows, capital improvements, and program expansion
System Solutions
You will develop repeatable procedure and policy solutions to complex problems
Policy Docs
You will help keep organizational documents up to date, including bylaws, investment policy statements, and internal policy and procedures
Audit Management
You will manage audit timelines and provide workpapers for our larger clients
Report Building
Using excel wizardry, you will build custom workbooks and financial models to help clients manage and better understand the unique economics of their organization
Payroll & HR
You will ensure that payroll activities and liabilities are recorded correctly and perform general HR functions in compliance with California employment rules
Advising
Leveraging years of experience, you will help clients make decisions around insurance, human resources, information systems, internal controls, and strategic finance
Automation
As someone who is tech-savvy, you ll help clients use technology and smart data architecture to automate or streamline processes as much as possible
Operations
You have the ability to provide senior guidance on finance-adjacent topics like insurance, compliance, development, and database management
Team Management
You will lead on multiple client engagements, manage internal and on-site client teams, and ensure that all of our scoped work is delivered excellently and on time.

With an understanding of what really matters to our clients, you will make decisions that prioritize mission returns and programmatic impact
Customer Service
You will become a trusted, valued, and liked member of client management teams
Skills
15+ years of increasing responsibilities in accounting or finance department
Nonprofit experience required
QuickBooks native ( like a fish in water )
Excel master ( vlookups, sumifs, etc )
HR fluent ( comfortable addressing nearly all HR issues )
Expert understanding of GAAP
Experience with other common nonprofit accounting systems ( Blackbaud, Intacct, MIP, etc )
Customer service focused with great communication, both internally and with our clients
Ability to simultaneously self-manage multiple priorities and overlapping deadlines
Ability to take initiative and solve problems independently
Personal drive to make a meaningful difference in our San Diego community
Bachelor s Degree in accounting or finance required, Master s Degree preferred
CPA or Enrolled Agent preferred
