About the role:

The Library Reader Advisor is responsible for providing assistance to the Library's patrons with requests for materials, basic and advanced searches, recommendations and other services to meet the needs of patrons. Promotes all library services to patrons.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Add all new patrons to the library database. Introduce all library services and programs to new library users. Assists patrons by telephone and in person at the library counter.
  • Create profiles for patrons who transfer in and out of our service area. Process the paperwork needed online to activate accounts.
  • Conducts basic and advanced research for patrons on titles, subjects, and authors.
  • Promotes training on equipment Books on Demand and using BARD, and information to new patrons to set up profiles, activate accounts, describe library services, and issue books and equipment.
  • Provide patrons with the regular promotion of library events, courses and workshops, recordings.
  • Contacts inactive patrons by telephone and/or mail to reactivate library accounts, update information and provide reading materials, equipment, and related accessories.
  • Responds to patrons' requests by e-mail and voice mail, process book order forms promptly.
  • Lead online classes, workshop 1:1 training, and library book clubs.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Knowledge and Education:

  • The position requires a four-year college degree or equivalent and college courses in Library Science, a broad spectrum of literature.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a library.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Position requires strong customer service, interpersonal, research, computer and communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritize assignments and meet the needs of patrons on a timely basis is needed.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Experience:

  • At least two years' experience working in a library environment.

Job Type: Full-time/Hybrid

Pay: $40,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
  • Day shift-8:30 AM-5:00 PM (PST).
  • Monday to Friday


Education:

  • Bachelor's (Preferred)


Ability to Relocate:


  • Los Angeles, CA 90029: Relocate before starting work (Required)

Braille Institute Library Services, designated by the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled at the Library of Congress (NLS) as the Southern California Regional Library and Machine Lending Agency for the Blind, Visually Impaired, Reading Disabled, and Physically Handicapped. Library patrons have access to braille and digital books with over 100,000 titles in our collection. As well as devices needed to use the service.
