A Behavior Specialist works with a team of clinical professionals to develop behavior plans for individuals with intellectual and/or other developmental disabilities. They work closely with the residential team providing training and supports to ensure continuity of care for the people who live at New Hope Community.

Ok, so what will I actually be doing every day?

As a Behavior Specialist you will be working with a variety of departments (clinical, residential and nursing) to develop, implement and evaluate behavior plans for the people that are supported at New Hope Community. This means that you will be applying your expertise to make a difference in people's lives. You will have the responsibility to advocate for the individuals and assist them in achieving their best lives possible. Days can be challenging and busy but also be filled with laughter, learning, and special moments!

The position of Behavior Specialist demands a positive attitude and a demonstrated history of outstanding performance. With a primary focus on fostering positive outcomes, a Behavior Specialist must exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills, managing the needs of both staff and individuals we support.

As an integral part of the core residential team, the Behavior Specialist collaborates closely with fellow staff members and various departments, highlighting the necessity for strong interpersonal skills and teamwork. A successful candidate for this role thrives in a collaborative environment, contributing actively to the collective goal of providing exceptional person-centered support to those we serve.

What certifications or skills do I need to be a Behavior Specialist ?

A Behavior Specialist must have a Master's degree in the fields of psychology or social work, or be certified as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual or other disabilities is preferred. Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred, but not required as we provide excellent, ongoing staff training and development experiences for all our staff to ensure you have the knowledge and skillset necessary to do your job well!
