Spay/Neuter Veterinarian

Job Details

Part-time

Description

The San Francisco SPCA was founded on the principle that a small group of people, working together and working strategically, could make a huge impact on the lives of animals. Over a century and a half later, that has proven to be true. We've set out to achieve a goal of impacting 5 million lives in 10 years with what we call Vision 2030. We are not only impacting lives in San Francisco, but also expanding our reach throughout the state of California. To achieve this goal, access to basic veterinary care will be imperative.

As many know, a growing shortage of veterinarians is impacting hundreds of thousands of California's shelter and companion animals. We're seeing delays in medical treatment, overcrowding in the shelters, and more outbreaks of disease. Sometimes, shelters are left with no other option than to euthanize treatable, adoptable pets, while some pet guardians are forced to surrender their animals because they cannot get the care they need.

To increase lifesaving capacity, the San Francisco SPCA is seeking a qualified, experienced veterinarian who wants to contribute to our goals by participating in spay/neuter clinics with our Stockton shelter partners. Interested professionals with proven surgical skills, a commitment to teamwork, a positive attitude for problem solving and communication, and the desire to learn and grow should apply.

Previous experience in a High Quality High Volume Spay Neuter (HQHVSN) setting is a plus, but not required.

This position is part time.

Essential Duties:

  • Assess animals pre- and post-operatively.
  • Perform 25 - 40 HQHVSN procedures per day for client-owned & shelter animals, as well as community cats.
  • Diagnose and treat post-surgical medical complications of outpatient animals.
  • Triage and refer cases that do not fall within the clinic's parameters of care as appropriate.
  • Provide compassionate and judgment free veterinary care.
  • Work effectively with individuals and colleagues from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Facilitate good working relationships through professional demeanor, teamwork and collaboration.

Compensation is $1,350 per 8-10-hour HQHVSN clinic shift worked; 2-3 shifts per week anticipated.

Included Benefits:
  • Eligibility to participate in our new student debt benefit program
  • Competitive PTO
  • CE funds + paid CE time
  • 401K with matching funds
  • Generous discounts on veterinary care and supplies at our SF Mission Campus

The SF SPCA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes everyone! We know diversity drives innovation and brings new perspectives. We consider our differences valuable assets that help us continually strive to be better at what we do. The San Francisco SPCA is an at-will employer and may conduct pre-employment background checks and drug screening depending on the role.

Requirements

  • DVM/VMD degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary school in general practice
  • Active, non-restricted CA state veterinary license or ability to obtain one
  • Able to perform soft tissue surgeries
