Purchasing and Inventory Control Specialist


Job Details

The Purchasing and Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for purchasing and maintenance of inventory control functions to include the creation of daily purchase orders, completion of cycle counts and FIFO analysis, maintenance of inventory records, implementation of warehouse slotting system and weekly warehouse transfers. Maintains inventory ordering controls in systematic manner and performs other inventory maintenance projects as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Evaluate and review recommended order quantities and place purchase orders as needed to maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet the needs of production
  • Place purchase orders timely and correctly
  • Maintain appropriate purchasing system controls for assigned vendors
  • Uphold quality standards, methods and reporting as required
  • Confers with vendors to obtain product information such as specifications, availability, and delivery schedule for non-stock, special order items
  • Resolve receiving and accounts payable exceptions
  • Perform expediting functions and update system expected arrival dates as appropriate
  • Monitor purchase orders to affect pricing and part accuracy, and ensure compliance with terms and conditions as established per vendor
  • Update price changes from vendors with approval from direct report
  • Perform purchasing administrative functions, including item database system maintenance, and preparing
  • Knowledge of corrugate and resin industry
  • Monitors and maintains current inventory levels; tracks orders and investigates problems
  • Report all shortages, damages and mis-shipments on appropriate forms
  • Work with AP and Shipping/Receiving departments on 3-way match system

Routinely conduct cycle counts and inventory aging analysis/solutions

Handle all product recall procedures within the facility

Perform other duties as assigned


Hours & Classification:

8:00 am- 5:00pm

Full time, salary


Requirements:

  • Understanding of Manufacturing materials, formats and processes
  • 3+ years of experience in food manufacturing environment
  • Attention to detail and an ability to prioritize as needed
  • Self-directed, dependable and result oriented
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel/Outlook)
  • Strong analytical skills - ability to analyze and interpret inventory and reporting data.
  • Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with all levels of internal and external personnel.
  • Knowledge of ERP and MRP functionality.
  • Experience using metrics to perform analysis
  • Must have a sense of urgency regarding deadlines and resolving issues
  • ERP experience a plus
