Do you love flowers and gardening? Do you enjoy a dynamic work environment? How about baby goats? We are looking for plant enthusiasts to join our Garden Center for a seasonal position beginning mid-March and running through the end of June. Knowledge of plant care or a willingness to learn quickly is needed. Previous greenhouse, horticulture or farm experience a definite plus. A passion for exceptional plant care is a must. The position's schedule is Monday-Sunday with rotating weekends.
Overall Responsibilities: Assisting in the care of plants, moving and restocking of Garden Center merchandise, acting as cashier for the Garden Center, helping guests load purchases and basic animal care for the LaClare Creamery Garden Center.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Assist in the care of plants, including but not limited to, watering, weeding, dead heading, pricing, moving and restocking
- Assist in the moving, pricing and restocking of Garden Center merchandise
- Assist in the cashier duties by ringing up guest orders and/or assisting with ringing up guest orders
- Provide customer assistance to find, purchase and load purchases into customer vehicles as needed
- Unload, unpack, price and store incoming plants and merchandise
- Basic knowledge of plants sold and/or willingness to learn
- Basic knowledge of food products being sold in the Retail Shop with a strong knowledge of food safety best practices and/or a willingness to learn
- Basic animal care is needed, including ensuring the health and safety of the animals at all times
- Perform opening and closing duties as detailed in Standard Operating Procedures dependent upon needs of your shift
- Assist in keeping Garden Center clean and organized at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Attributes
- Minimum 1 year Garden Center experience preferred
- Comfortable working in an outdoor environment
- Comfortable working with animals
- Ability to lift and move 50 lbs.
- Chemical applicator license is preferred
- Hands-on role involving general labor
- Trustworthy, ethical and self-driven
- Works effectively and relates well with others, exhibits a friendly and professional manner
