Salary Range: $22.50 per hour

Schedule: 35 hours per week, April 01, 2024 - September 27, 2024

Employment Type: Seasonal, Part-time, Non-Exempt

Job Summary

We are a COVID-19 proactive organization that follows applicable health and safety regulations to help protect our members and staff. Harriman Base Camp employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless it is specified under requirements. BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.

The maintenance assistant will be supervised by the Director of Camp Administration and Community Relations. The direct supervisor will be the Maintenance Director. The maintenance assistant will be involved in the day-to-day upkeep of program spaces and overall camp maintenance. The assistant will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance tasks, including ground keeping, plumbing, mechanical, painting, masonry, and the safe operation of hand and power tools. Must be available for mandatory training in June.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists to safely operate necessary equipment including lawn mowers, leaf blowers, etc.
  • Assist in the inspection and closing of buildings and facilities and making repairs as needed
  • Assists in the moving, loading, unloading, transporting furniture, equipment, tools and supplies for use at the facility
  • Follow and execute maintenance tasks as per seasonal schedule
  • Installation and rearranging of furniture and other related program supplies
  • Perform inspections of systems including fire alarms, smoke detectors, breakers, etc.
  • Proper removal and disposal of trash, debris, and recycling
  • Maintenance of equipment safety, inventory, and condition
  • Perform all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory guidelines, including local, state and federal and BCNY standard policy and procedures.
  • Performs custodial services following the cleaning procedures for program spaces, cabins, restrooms, kitchen, infirmary, and residential cabins.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Repetitively lift up to 50 lbs. with a range from floor level to above shoulder height
  • Free range of motion including twisting, bending, stooping, and climbing on step ladders
  • Must possess the ability to use hand and power tools

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or high school graduate or equivalent.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification required or must be able to obtain certification or become certified once employed.
  • Ability to pass a background check and physical exam.
  • All staff must be up to date on all required immunizations and provide proof of their MMR according to NY State.
  • Must submit proof of health examination within the past year and immunization record prior to first day of work.
  • Valid Driver's License

Qualifications

  • Maintenance related experience (2 year minimum)
  • Carpentry, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, and mechanical experience (Preferred)
  • Valid Driver's License (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of safety precautions, system, and codes
  • At least 1 year of experience with youth and camp experience preferred.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English or Mandarin/English preferred.
