Job Details

Apex Systems is seeking a metallurgical observer to join one of our international trade clients.
The metallurgical observer coordinates outside hot working conversion and monitors all activities. Review of purchase orders prior to issuing to converters. Input ingot chemistry into MASS/Info router. Rating of ingots and subcontractor hot working.

% Time
60% Observing all operations at outside converters
10% Travel time to converters
3% Coordinate observation schedule, changes daily
2% Rating ingots prior to hot working
10% Complete observer reports
1% Calibration of optical pyrometers
3% Posting ingot certs on MASS & Info router
7% Review of the companys hot working purchase orders
4% Calculate ingot breakdown and attach to relevant PO
Minimum Requirements (Include education, experience, special skills and licenses or certifications required.)
College education or work experience equivalent, preferably both
Essential Mental Functions
Organization is key to documenting hot working. Must be assertive in observation activities. Data collection requires attention to detail and calls on memory to continuously improve processing at Converters. Coordination of activities when required...requires prioritizing skills. Proficient at multi tasking.
Essential Physical Functions
Utililize safe practices to measure/monitor surface quality at various mill environments. Good coordination of activities when required...requires prioritizing skills.
Equipment Used
Optical pyrometer (and calibration). Micrometer, tape measure, and calipers. Computer knowledge. Microfilm use.
