**Description:**

The role of Research Scientist, Drug Delivery & Nanotechnology involves leading and conducting experiments for the discovery and preclinical activities of Ocugens product pipeline related to nanoparticle-based drug substances. This position reports directly to the Principal Scientist, Drug Delivery & Nanotechnology.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct laboratory research related to drug delivery, development of nanoparticle-based formulations, and characterizations for, but not limited to Ocugens products.

Support preclinical drug delivery platforms and nano-formulation efficacy studies related to ophthalmologic, neurodegenerative, and infectious diseases and clinical trial research as needed.

Work with internal team members, external collaborators and Contract Research Organizations for timely execution of projects.

Maintaining familiarity with current scientific literature and techniques in the field of nanotechnology and biologic therapy.

Contribute to drafting of technical reports and present data/results to the project teams; Performs literature search on new discovery programs and draft new project proposals for internal R&D and extramural funding.

Provide regulatory guidance, with direction from manager, related to nanotechnology, biologics, aseptic processing, validation, cGMP, and combination products.

With direction from manager, establishing high level strategies for new technology development and applying new technologies in pipeline projects.

Identifying and quickly resolving workflow issues.

Collaborating with colleagues within Research and Development group.

Qualifications

PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field with 4+ years of industry experience or a combination of industry and postdoctoral experience in related field.

Experience in nanoparticle (polymeric, lipid, and metal) synthesis, targeted gene or drug delivery system, and nanoparticle surface functionalization.

Experience in analytical tools and techniques applied to materials science, colloidal structure and stability, and nanotechnologies for formulation.

Scientific training and hands-on experience with nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems.

Evidence of scientific accomplishments in the form of publications and presentations.

Evidence of contribution to the field of nanotechnology and drug delivery systems.

Strong leadership and communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Ability to work independently and effectively as a team member with multidisciplinary project teams.

Working Conditions

This job requires a person to work in laboratories and offices to conduct experiments, analyze the results, and create reports and scientific presentations. Person will be spending 70% of work hours at the research and development laboratory and is expected to work with biological materials, microorganisms, cells, and laboratory chemicals. He/She is expected to work with vendor, CROs, and CMOs in drafting and reviews of various documents such as study design, protocols, batch records, and reports. Job requires travel to CRO/CMO sites as needed.

Physical requirements

Person may have to stand and sit for longer duration during experiments.
