The Materials Research Society (MRS) is a vibrant non-profit professional membership association of more than 13,500 materials researchers from academia, industry, and government, and is a recognized leader in the advancement of interdisciplinary materials research. Reimagine your scientific and technical content career with MRS. As the Senior Manager for Technical Content, you will be responsible for the development of technical content across the society, ensuring integration of content planning and development across MRS programs in alignment with society strategy and objectives.


Serving as the primary technical contact with MRS Meeting chairs and symposium organizers, MRS journal editors, and key volunteers, you will lead and coordinate content development of MRS Meetings, publications, MRS News, virtual programming, topical communities, and peer society collaborations.


What will I do?

  • Serve as the MRS headquarters lead for content development, bridging meetings, publications, and virtual programs. Ensure integration and coordination of content planning across all MRS programs.
  • Guide the MRS Meeting programming process from a technical content perspective, working closely with key volunteer and internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as content liaison for the Program Development Subcommittee, Society Agility Council, Topical Curation Subcommittee, and Topical Staging Subcommittee.
  • Advise the Editorial Strategic Planning Subcommittee and staff to ensure alignment of technical content across the MRS publications portfolio and society programs.
  • Provide input and advice on MRS journal, books, webinar, and news portfolio in coordination with Editors, Editorial Board, and staff.
  • Participate in virtual programming and peer society collaborations, including content development and session moderation as required.


What will make you a great fit:

  • Degree in materials science, engineering, or related field that provides a broad knowledge of materials science, the scientific process, and scientific publications. An advanced graduate degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • More than five (5) years experience working in research or scientific publishing in a materials-related field.
  • Excellent editing, writing and grammar skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and work with a broad range of individuals worldwide (e.g., technical experts and volunteers).
  • Self-motivated and creative with the ability to think strategically with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to lead others.
  • Travel ability for national events (with occasional travel outside of the United States) approximately 10% annually.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software; ability to rapidly learn new technology and association-specific software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and managing a budget.

This position can be remote or hybrid; well-qualified remote candidates considered; Pittsburgh, PA (USA) regional area candidates preferred. All employees of MRS are expected to attend meetings in person as needed, whether at headquarters in Warrendale, PA or other locations.
