FTE .85 (34 hours per week), 183 work days, summers off.

Salary: RN starting at $25.23/hr. LPN starting at $22.70/hr. Non-exempt, benefit eligible.

Benefits include: a comprehensive benefit plan, Montana State retirement plan (TRS), overtime eligible, PLUS 8-days holiday pay, 15-days paid vacation, 12-days sick leave and 4 personal days to start. Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides nursing services to students with special medical needs subject to IEP and 504 Plans.
  • Conducts school health services, including physical assessments, tests for visual acuity, scoliosis screening, personal health counseling, and appropriate emergency health services.
  • Observes students to detect health needs and refers students in need of medical care.
  • Gathers and provides information regarding students' medical matters.
  • Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students and participates in coordination of services.
  • Monitors compliance of school health program with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies.
  • Participates as an advisor, consultant, and expert resource person for school staff in developing and implementing the needs of individual students.
  • Provides recommendations to administration for exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Actively participates in committee meetings regarding school health services, curriculum and environmental safety.
  • Collaborates with other child-support and community agencies.
  • Participates in and contributes to meetings in determining eligibility for special education services and in developing individual educational programs for those students who qualify.
  • Provides consultation in health related policies, goals and objectives of the school district.
  • Manages program allotment efficiently and maintains security of school health supplies.
  • Teaches First Aid, CPR, AED and/or other health related classes to staff and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of state and local laws and regulations relating to school health services.
  • Knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies.
  • Knowledge of child growth, development, medical disorders and treatment.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment in making decisions.
  • Ability to pass a physical screening and federal background check.
  • Ability to use current office technology and software programs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to obtain first aid certification upon employment.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN); AND,
  • Current Registered Nurse license in State of Montana; AND,
  • Current Montana driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a school nurse.
  • Experience working with public health.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work a Medium Duty job, which involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 40 pounds continuously to move objects.
