The purpose of this classification is toperform construction, repair and maintenance of electric power transmission and distribution systems. Incumbents in this classification attend training to learn routine aspects of line work, perform manual labor, and assist experienced Line Workers with more technical aspects of work functions.

Attends and completes training sessions as required to gain skills and knowledge regarding division operations, technical job functions, and policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Determines materials and equipment required to complete assigned tasks.

Performs manual labor associated with construction, maintenance and repair of power transmission and distribution systems.

Adheres to established safety procedures: monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project or work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; and wears protective gear.

Assists with the installation, maintenance and repair of electric power transmission and distribution systems.

Assists with installing, restoring, and repairing electric services and systems.

Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices;

Utilizes maintenance, work order, or department-specific software; and

Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments.

Communicates with supervisor, other employees, the public, and other individuals as needed.

**May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed 24 hours/day 7 days/week to maintain service to customers in the event of a natural disaster, emergencies, or any other disruption of service.**

Satisfactorily completes various training and certifications as required and performs other related duties as required.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

Must possess a high school diploma; minimum of one year line worker experience, excellent reporting and communication skills. Must reside in the Orangeburg area due to emergency call out and standby duty requirements. Must possess a valid SC Drivers License. Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions and unfavorable weather conditions while handling dangerous equipment. Must be able to work nights, holidays, weekends, and emergencies.

**Specific License or Certification Required**: Must obtain a valid South Carolina Commercial Drivers License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s) within 6 months in position. Must obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certificate, be climber certified, and complete Week 1 & 2 of Line Worker Training School within 12 months in position.

**Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities**: Must have the ability to satisfactorily complete Week 3 & 6 of Line Worker Training School. Must be able to operate a computer and/or tablet to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, e-mail, or other software. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
