Launched from Google X in 2015, our purpose is to bring the promise of precision health to everyone, every day. We are focused on generating and activating data from a variety of sources, including clinical, social, behavioral and the real world, to arrive at the best solutions for a person based on a comprehensive view of the evidence. Our unique expertise and capabilities in technology, data science and healthcare enable the entire healthcare ecosystem to drive better health outcomes.

Description

Our team is hiring a Factory Manager to lead and manage the South Florida mosquito production facility that will produce mosquitoes for sterile insect programs.

Mosquitoes kill more people than every other animal combined. One particular species transmits diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya that sicken hundreds of millions of people every year. Applying broad spectrum pesticides is unsustainable as they become less effective over time and can be toxic. Clearing standing water is not enough since it is challenging to find all of the places where mosquitoes breed. Debug is an effort to eliminate mosquito-borne disease using the Incompatible Insect Technique (IIT). We combine modern molecular biology with robotic automation and machine learning to generate millions of sterile male mosquitoes that, when safely released into the wild to mate with females, cause a crash in the population of only the one targeted species. In concert with integrated mosquito vector control programs, Debug aims to ultimately impact the cycle of mosquito-borne disease transmission.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the final stages of construction of South Florida mosquito facility, working closely with external parties (including contractors, architect and project coordinators) and aligning with the Debug's technical requirements necessary to build a facility that can carry out mass production and releases of sterile male mosquitoes.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the facility including overseeing operation of equipment, monitoring production, supervising staff, stocking of factory consumables, managing building maintenance, and enforcing environmental health and safety.
  • Develop, plan and implement quality control processes and operation protocols that are aligned with business needs and requirements.
  • Work cross functionally with both the Singapore and the South San Francisco, CA teams of engineers, scientists and leadership to ensure orderly progress of factory/equipment build, as well as maximizing efficiency and effectiveness of operations to drive business success.
  • Ensure facility maintenance is carried out on an ongoing basis to ensure smooth operation with minimal downtime and errors. Includes sourcing and working with outside suppliers and contractors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration, industrial engineering, logistics, or relevant management experience.
  • More than 5+ years of experience successfully planning and managing program operations and logistics and/or field operations.
