Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Physical Plant Services invites applications for the position of HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic. This position is unique to the University as it works alone 60% of the workweek, which results in exercising independent judgment. The majority of duties include standard HVAC routines along with fulfilling emergencies as requested. This position performs damage control and completes repairs in preparation for the next crew. Having a working knowledge of electrical and plumbing operations is necessary.

The night shift nature of this position will result in premium pay.

This position works rotating 10-hour shifts as follows:
Week 1: Saturday4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Sunday 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Monday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Tuesday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

ThursdayOFF
FridayOFF
Week 2: Saturday 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
SundayOFF
Monday OFF
Tuesday OFF
Wednesday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Thursday 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Friday 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Candidates must possess the appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990). Southeastern requires a Type IV, Universal Certification. Please note that Southeastern will allow the candidate selected for the job up to 30 days to acquire the required certification.

EXAMS, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and be able to be certified through the Southeastern Defensive Driving Course

Appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990). Southeastern requires a Type IV, Universal Certification. Please note that Southeastern will allow the candidate selected for the job up to 30 days to acquire the required certification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Training in the installation, operation or maintenance of air conditioning and refrigeration systems will substitute for the two years of required experience on a month for month basis.
