ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Assists clients with their personal care, i.e. bathing, dressing, teeth, and hair care, feeding, etc. Provides nail care for non-diabetic clients.

* Performs housekeeping such as washing dishes, vacuuming, damp mopping, and cleaning.

* Changes client's bed linen and does laundry. Does ironing and mending.

* Provides social and intellectual stimulation for clients, such as reading the paper, discussing current events, reading/writing correspondence.

* Works with client to plan and prepare meals to meet nutritional requirements of client.

* Assists with shopping, errands, etc.

* Accompanies client to doctor appointments as needed. Communicates with doctor regarding client needs.

* Assists client in communicating and interacting with family members and other professionals. Resolves family member concerns or refers to supervisor regarding client care needs.

* Documents activities and maintains contact with the Home Care office.

* Follows all in-service requirements stated in OARs and Mennonite Village policies. Attends meetings and inservices to gain more knowledge of the elderly and/or ill.

* Works safely using good body mechanics and proper equipment to comply with OSHA's requirements concerning a safe work environment. Promptly reports any accidents or injuries. Uses safe work practices and safely operates equipment.

* Informs supervisor of changing client needs. Consults with IHC Administrator, RN, and IHC Supervisor to ensure client is receiving appropriate services.

* Monitors medication intake and reorders medications as needed.

* Communicates with Registered Nurse, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or others as required to provide for the client's needs. Assists client with exercises recommended by therapists.

* Documents information in client notebook.

* Is knowledgeable of Mennonite Village values, policies and procedures, and conducts oneself in a way, which is a credit to the organization and the Department.

* Assists in training new staff members.

* Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Supportive of the Mennonite Village philosophy, policies and procedures.

* Experience with community-based care preferred.

* Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English. Must possess sight and hearing senses within normal limits to see and hear clients when needed.

* Demonstrated accurate documentation skills.

* Working knowledge of housekeeping equipment, sanitation, chemical mixing, and general safety rules.

* Capable of working flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.

* Ability to make decisions independently and to use good judgement in emotional or emergency situations. Ability to prioritize workload and to respond appropriately to change.

* Ability to develop trust and rapport with clients and other facility employees.

* Ability to work under time pressure and stress and maintain professional demeanor.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality of information at all times.

* Capable of lifting 10-50 lbs., with occasional lifting of residents weighing over 100 lbs.

* Ability to safely move frequently during the day, including carrying, lifting, standing, sitting, bending, reaching, and kneeling. Ability to push and/or pull wheelchairs and other equipment.

* Valid Oregon drivers license, ability to get to and from clients location, and current auto insurance.

* Certified in CPR and First Aid preferred.

* Excellent Interpersonal skills.

* Ability to work with and communicate with the elderly.

* Ability to work effectively with people with difficult behaviors.
