SUMMARY

This high-level position is at the top of our organizational chart for experienced grinders. The role is responsible as an individual or in a team for manufacturing quality tool and die components using technical ability, experience, and knowledge, under the direction of the Component Grinding Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Precision Surface Grinder 3

The incumbent is responsible to grind/manufacture any job to expected quality specifications with little or no supervision.

Follows procedures, utilizes full technical ability, experience, and knowledge to safely manufacture dies, parts, and spare parts in a timely manner consistent with quality and SOP ("Standard Operating Procedure") requirements.

Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and fixturing used to fabricate parts.

Independently selects proper abrasives used to manufacture various steels, powdered metals, and carbide.

Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines grinding method and sequence of operations without supervision.

Must be able to fixture and design methods of manufacturing complex parts.

Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for grinding, as needed with no supervision.

Must be able to set up and use dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, sin bars, planers gage independently.

Verify the dimensions of the work piece to match the dimensions on the blueprint and inspect all parts for received prior till and after completion of work.

Sets up and operates machine tools such as precision surface grinders (precision grinding to include wet, surface, CNC, Jig, etc.), to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. May operate multiple machines, depending upon assigned work area.

Required to setup and program CNC surface grinders.

Has the ability to consistently hold tolerances of .0001" and .00002".

Maintains all acceptable surface finishes per the function of the part without supervision.

Performs required preventive maintenance on assigned machine(s), as needed.

Must be able to locate, diagnose, and correct problems in equipment and systems utilizing test equipment and/or prior work experience.

Verifies dimensions, stock allowance, and conformity independently.

Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.

Investigates problems that arise while performing a job and applies problem solving techniques to attempt to resolve problems.

Maintains focus on productivity, maximizing uptime.

Completes required paperwork accurately and efficiently to verify work.

Properly tracks time worked using required methods and systems with minimal errors.

Participates in training and cross training efforts, as assigned.

Initiates action to correct quality and safety problems or notifies others of issues as appropriate.

Identifies conditions that contribute to gaps or key variances. Makes suggestions, volunteers assistance, offers resources, or removes obstacles to help the group achieve its goals.

May be required to train or assist PSG1 and/or PSG2 employees.

General

Embraces and participates in JV's Safety culture, always keeping Safety as the #1 priority. Conforms to and follows all safety rules, production, and quality directives. Maintains cleanliness of work area to meet JV standards.

Must be able to communicate through written, verbal, or other means of communication.

Reports any incidents that have occurred in a timely fashion and participates in investigations, as required (i.e., safety, spills, accidents, productivity/workflow).

Makes suggestions, demonstrates a questioning attitude and is supportive and open minded to new and existing ideas/initiatives.

Maintains positive and supportive employee relations through continuous communication with all colleagues.

Filing, inventory, administrative, tasks, security, auditing, housekeeping, painting, inspections, telephone calls, ordering, shipping, training, mentoring, updating safety data sheets, and any other duties as assigned.

Performs other duties and assignments, as deemed necessary, to support JV's dynamic business and operational needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

Education - Journeyperson Certificate and or Similar Work Certification.

Experience - Minimum 10 years of experience as a precision grinder or equivalent.

Technology

o Basic computer skills, including use and navigation of internet/intranet.

o Ability to understand and apply appropriate usage of technology in a work environment including virus prevention.

Knowledge and Competencies -

o Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills independently.

o Interacts well with customers, vendors, and co-workers from all levels of organization, when applicable.

o Proficient in reading prints and understanding terminology.

o Able to multi-task and prioritize work.

o Motivated and willing to learn.

Internal Candidates

o Minimum four (4) years at Precision Surface Grinder 2 (PSG2).

o Meets or exceeds overall expectations in formal reviews for the past 2 years.

o No formal corrective action on record in the previous 24 months from application.

o Has eight (8) or less Non-Conformance Report (NCR) occurrences for the past 2 year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Blueprint Reading Class

Exposure to and understanding of GD&T

Must possess knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Independence

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally working within a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.

This position is considered safety sensitive, due to operating machinery and equipment.

The work week is a minimum of 40 hours. There is additional requested overtime as business and operational needs necessitate. Required work hours, schedules and shifts are subject to change based upon business necessity. Required reliable transportation applies to all shifts, as assigned.

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.

This role does not require the use of personal electronic devices, however, must conform to multi-factoring authentication (MFA) on any device that uploads JVM electronic applications.

Noise level varies throughout the different work areas. Must wear appropriate PPE, as required, in work area(s).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

General - Physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement; ability to climb unusual heights on ladders, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy loads (up to 50 lbs.); to operate assigned equipment and vehicles.

Near Vision- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
