GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Terminal Operations Assistant will be responsible for overseeing the safe unloading of barges, assist Terminal Operators if necessary, and respond to any spills or other emergencies at the facility. The Terminal Operations Assistant will watch for spills, fires, and other hazards and communicate in an emergency and respond to the emergency as required by regulation or as directed by terminal personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Standby and be alert at the dock while watching the barge unload.
2. Use a handheld radio to communicate with terminal and barge personnel.
3. Open and close pipeline valves as required.
4. Operate hand tools accurately as required.
5. Operate a hydraulic winch to assist barge in connecting discharge hoses.
6. Raise and lower gangway to barge as required. This may be done manually or with an electric or hydraulic winch. 7. Perform other duties as required in regards to unloading barges and other terminal operations.
8. Read and understand the Facility Operations Manual as well as the reporting requirements under the Facility Response Plan.
9. Complete 24 hour HAZWOPER training as required.
10. Complete 48 hours of training before functioning as a Person in Charge (PIC).
11. Pass any required training tests.
12. Monitor for spills, fire, and other hazards and communicate emergency and respond as required by regulation or as directed by terminal personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
