The Laborer/General Maintenance position was created for the upkeep and custodial services for various buildings on campus, to include dormitories and classroom buildings.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to seek training to learn new skills.
  • Must be accessible when emergencies arise to meet the mission of the University.
  • Should have an interest in both custodial and grounds maintenance, especially maintenance in and around the front of the building and all common areas.
  • Must follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to work as a member of a team.
  • Must be able to possess and maintain a Mississippi Driver's License.

Essential Job Functions

  • Weeds flower beds around buildings.
  • Trims shrubs around the building.
  • Removes trash and debris.
  • Cleans floors, hallways, restrooms, common areas, porches, and windows.
  • Waxes, buffs, and polishes floors.
  • Cleans parking lots.
  • Performs minor maintenance tasks such as minor painting around door trim and touch up painting on walls, unclogs toilets, and assists in moving furniture around to perform cleaning tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Experience in working in a maintenance or janitorial setting preferred.

Licensing and Certifications

  • Must possess and maintain a Mississippi Driver's License.

Physical Requirements
