Mission or Goal of Unit: To provide excellent, compassionate, evidence based,efficient patient care while educating the physicians and healthcareprofessionals of tomorrow using state-of-the-art facilities and knowledge inthe field of Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine.

Chief Purpose of this position: Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking an incumbent to provide high quality patient care in the specialtyof Infectious Disease and support the academic mission of the School ofMedicine, the Division of Infectious Disease and the Department of InternalMedicine.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | Staff Infectious Disease and HIV fellow's clinic andInfectious Disease consultation services.Teach fellows, residents and medical students using adult teachingmethods that enhance and encourage active learning and ongoing professionaldevelopment.Complete student, residentand fellows evaluations.Participate inother ID educational activities including resident didactic series, andInternal Medicine Grand Rounds, and other educational duties assigned by thedepartment and service.

Research | Participate in clinical and administrative researchaccording to skills, interest and funding.Provide mentoring and supervision of fellows and residents in researchand QI initiatives.Researchopportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formalextramurally funded investigations and participation may be as principleinvestigator or co-investigator.

Service | Work with institutional and administrative staff toattain the objectives of Virginia Commonwealth University and VCU Health Systemincluding patient safety, customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement ofpublic perception and fiscal health.

Clinical | Provide excellent patient care in general infectiousdisease and focused areas of interest and experience in both inpatient andoutpatient settings.Actively participatein management of patients on ID consult service.Join colleagues in assuring service coverage24/7/365.

Other | Comply promptly with billing, documentation,credentialing and other administrative requirements of the department

Required Qualifications:

  • Board certification oreligibility in internal medicine and infectious disease
  • Direct experience inmanaging complex infectious diseases including HIV care in both inpatientand outpatient in settings
  • Working as a team withother healthcare providers in a collaborative manner to provide patientcare
  • Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and studentenvironment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a medical provider at an academic medical center
