Business Development Manager


Job Details

We re hiring a Senior Business Development Manager in North Carolina or West Virginia who will lead development strategies and building partnerships, largely focused on winning public sector projects with values $10M and above. We're looking for people with experience getting out there in front of K-12 schools, universities, municipalities, people who have networks in school districts, in local government, in city councils, people who are know how to leverage relationship in public sector meetings and deliver a project from conceptualization through implementation.


A perfect role for someone already in energy efficiency/energy savings performance contracting/the design-build space. We don't require you to be someone already selling performance contracts. If you don't have the existing energy background though what we will need to see is that you are someone who can leverage relationships and network in the public sector in order to go out and win these projects.


The role:


  • Create opportunities within assigned accounts, vertical, and/or geographic focus area
  • Land and expand relationships with all levels in an account ranging from Facilitate Managers to Chief Business Officers, Financial Director, City Managers and Board/Council Members
  • Lead client meetings, contract negotiations, and present at Public Board or Council meetings
  • Maintain a revenue and margin quota and robust sales funnel
  • Schedule appointments and meetings with customers in order to define opportunities, success parameters, and qualify the opportunity
  • Lock in engagement with multiple stakeholders and surrounding community throughout the development process
  • Attend critical networking and trade events and expand our collective knowledge of critical issues facing our customer base
  • Mentor, partner, and train new Business Development Managers


Your background:


  • We're flexible but ideally at least 7 years of complex sales experience, with the majority of that being in the energy services/renewable energy industry
  • Know how to deliver in a quota-driven sales environment, exceeding sales targets in the $MMs
  • Strong network or understanding of how to work with public sector or governmental agencies
  • Knowledge of how engineering/architectural/design-build firms do business
  • Strong presentation skills in front of groups of clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to conduct presentations in public forums, such as City Council or School Boards
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
