POSITION OVERVIEW

The Electrical Estimator is responsible for determining the cost of electrical jobs, assessing complexity, cost of labor and materials, for for commercial-industrial projects.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROJECT ESTIMATING

  • Assist with creating construction budgets based on preliminary and schematic documents.
  • Assist the senior estimator and preconstruction manager with the architects, engineers, and owners in the development of plans and specifications that are within the proposed budget limitations.
  • Assist with the subcontractor bidding and scoping of projects to help develop construction budgets.
  • Analyze & document plan overlays to determine changes & revisions to the contract documents (plans & specifications) that may impact the budget and/or constructability of the project.
  • Formulate & coordinate project bids via Accubid; i.e. Select specific subcontractors whose services fit the project criteria in relevant divisions; Develop, coordinate, & issue all project correspondence to the project principles (Preconstruction Manager, Senior Estimator, Architect, & Subcontractors); Collect, analyze, & submit all project RFI s to the Architect, and issue all RFI responses back to the subcontractors; etc.
  • Thoroughly review all project documents to establish specific scopes of work for all trades in all relevant divisions.
  • Analyze subcontractor proposals throughout all trades within the relevant divisions and determine if the proposals meet the specific project scope of work and all applicable project requirements.
  • Develop a relationship with subcontractors through conceptual budgeting and project bid-out.
  • Develop, record, and recall cost information for budgeting.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments in the construction industry.
  • Ensure that minority subcontractor participation goals are met as per project requirements and company goals.
  • Responsible for timely completion of assigned projects.
  • Attend required corporate meetings and training programs.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Succinctly and cordially responds to customer requests.
  • Develops relationships with both customers and vendors to the benefit of the company.
  • Assists in identification of prequalification opportunities.
  • Exceed customer expectations on assigned projects.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Coursework towards a journeyperson certificate, through an apprenticeship program, construction management or related applicable to estimating.
  • Additional field experience as a journeyperson in the construction industry, preferably with expertise in electrical systems and installations.
  • Experience with large switchgear, duct banks and sitework, large conduit and feeders.
  • Medium voltage experience or familiarization a plus.
  • Experience with heavy commercial/industrial type projects.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in estimating.
  • Knowledge of NEC code.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, and computerized estimating.
  • Experienced with on screen takeoff (or similar estimating software) a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specs.
  • General knowledge of electrical construction practices, and scheduling.
  • Field experience a plus.
  • Organized, highly motivated and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills, verbal and in written.
  • Ability to interact and function professionally with all parties, including internal teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.

The noise level in the work environment, particularly when in the field, can vary significantly and at times be very loud.
