Massachusetts Property Insurance Underwriting Association is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner to join our Claims Department.

This position is responsible for the examination of property claims in accordance with Association claims procedure, and the evaluation and pursuit of salvage and subrogation recoveries. This position reports to the Property Claims Manager and has no supervisory responsibility.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A college degree is preferred, and three to five years of property claim experience is required, including litigation, mediation, reference experience and a familiarity with changing insurance contracts, laws, and regulations. Must have a full understanding of property claim investigation and the ability to work respectfully and collaboratively in a team environment. Must have a Rhode Island Property Casualty Adjuster license and if does not currently have one, be able to pass the test and obtain one within Association timeline requirements. Must be able to work independently, have computer proficiency, maintain confidentiality, and possess good oral and written communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for reviewing all property claim files at any stage to ensure proper processing and identifies possible fraud indicators and refers to counsel with direction from the Property Claims Manager.
  • Responsible for identifying the potential for salvage and or subrogation and refer to the subrogation examiner to pursue.
  • Documenting claim files with timely and comprehensive file notes in ImagerRight and XactAnalysis programs.
  • Promptly and accurately make indemnity payments on all assigned claims.
  • Promptly and accurately make coverage decisions on all assigned claims.
  • Review adjuster reports to confirm that they are accurate, complete and to ensure the reserves are in line with the adjuster s recommendations
  • Provides informational assistance to producers, insureds and Underwriting staff regarding policy coverage and limitations.
  • Assists the Property Claims Manager through the training of staff adjusters and independent adjusters.
  • Assists the Property Claims Manager with the daily assignments of new losses to both staff and independent adjusters.
  • Work closely with coverage and/or litigation counsel both in-house and outside counsel.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.
