PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Site Safety Manager is the technical expert, counsel to site personnel, and primary person responsible for advising the Site Management on the implementation of the Company IIPP. This is achieved by working directly with site management, support groups, customers, sub-contractors, and all levels of field personnel while acting as the primary liaison between these various interests. The Site Safety Manager is the primary responsible person for the implementation and management of the site Safety Performance Indicators.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Work as a team, yet take initiative to do job activities with minimum management oversite
  • Able to demonstrate technical/professional proficiency to plan, execute/coordinate Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) policies and site-specific programs
  • Able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of existing regulations, codes, and their applications
  • Be visible and responsive to employee and clients, be a mentor to others in the department
  • Motivate subordinates and peers with a positive attitude and image
  • All decisions with the goal of what is best for the employee s health and safety, and the company
  • Manage and conduct training with a focus on regulatory requirements such as confined space, working from heights, respiratory protection, hazard communications, and site specifics
  • Active participation in steering committees
  • Conduct field safety audits/observations and evaluate performance of crews
  • Focus on regulatory requirements such as IIPP compliance, identifying and mitigating unsafe acts/conditions, permit and site-specific requirements, PPE compliance, hazard analysis, housekeeping and general attitude employees have towards safety
  • Ensure compliance of training verification on site, approved driver list, OSHA board, monthly risk management, and maintaining first aid supplies
  • Make sure site follows company Drug and Alcohol Policy and manages randoms, inactive retests, for cause, and post incident/accident testing
  • Guarantees injury reports are complete, accurate and submitted on time
  • Provides on-going medical follow up on all injured employees; including attending medical appointments, employee follow ups, documentation process flow, manage employees with work limitations, minimize the impact of injuries to the employee and the company
  • Attend site safety meetings and manage site safety incentive program
  • Maintain a consistent leadership role in the site Contractor Safety Council
  • Develop and implement Site Safety Plan, and work with client safety to yield a seamless Site Safety Agenda
  • Manage the Site Safety Budget and be accountable for it

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • High school education/equivalent required. College education preferred
  • Five years of petrochemical or related industry experience is required
  • Field safety technician experience is preferred
  • Must have working knowledge of all applicable OSHA (Federal and State) rules and regulations
  • Possesses organizational and leadership skills
  • On call availability for duration of project
  • Must be able to work in stressful and sometimes confrontational situations
  • Needs to be able to take and give direction, and work effectively utilizing company philosophies
  • Must be fluent at reading, speaking, and writing in English
  • Computer skills required such as Windows based software including Microsoft Office programs and Outlook
