Role Introduction

Cathay Pacific Airways is looking for a highly motivated team leader to join the **LAX Airport** **team** as a **Senior Airport Operations Manager**. Reporting directly to the Regional Airports Manager, this position will lead and manage the overall airport operations to run smoothly and efficiently whilst complying with the established safety, security and quality standards. As part of the Airport team, this role is key in delivering the best possible operation and airport service experience to ensure our customers always feel special, valued and recognized regardless of circumstance. The successful candidate will also provide managerial level support to buddy Airport Operations Managers, inspire our people and suppliers to embrace change and excel in everything they do, and represent the Companys best interests within the local community.

Key Responsibilities

**Safety First, Quality Always**

* Achieve absolute operational integrity with zero safety defects & security infringements

* Advocate Just Culture and develop proactive partnerships with stakeholders

* Partner with local airport management to identify and mitigate personal, safety and security risks in the airport for customers, employees & suppliers

* Act as the Airlines Operational Duty Holder for LAX adhering to the risk escalation process to the Regional Airports Manager

**Operational Excellence**

* Lead the team to achieve error free operational excellence with emphasis on safety management, OTP, baggage handling and future airport experience

* Proactively seek ways to be above published standards, airport policies and procedures; promote Best Practice

* Commitment to owning full spectrum of airport operational issues and resolving them in a pragmatic and legally compliant manner

* Undertake any other reasonable task as required, incl. airport operational continuity

* Find opportunities to apply new technologies in the customer experience flow

**Crisis Management Capability & Preparedness**

* Liaison with Business Resilience team to develop organizational, supplier and individual capabilities for handling Emergency and Accident, Irregular Operations (IROPS), and other foreseeable airport contingencies

* Plan for and manage exercises, reviews, and update to contingency plans & manuals

* Implement IROPS plan during significant disruptions

**People Development & Performance Management**

* Lead, support and encourage team to achieve success; ensure organizational structure and right people are in place to foster positive team spirit & teamwork

* Participate in related recruitment & selection activities

* Maintain active dialogue in relation to employee goals & performance and actively engage employees to enhance their understanding of department goals

* Demonstrate CX core values while enhancing employee experience in line with brand promise

**Supplier Management**

* Actively manage supplier performance levels as per contracts service level agreements

* Ensure sub-contracting as per contract and engage relevant parties when changes occur to set clear direction/expectations to suppliers as per corporate requirements

**Cost Efficiency**

* Thoroughly plan/manage the station budget with all key stakeholders and actively seek opportunities to drive down costs, without compromising legislation, levels of service or operational performance

* Seek revenue opportunities by maximizing utilization of properties eg. Lounge

**Represent Cathay interests in Airport Community**

* Actively engage/manage external airport relationships in best interests of the Company

* Act as representative in AOC or BAR to protect the interests of the airline and ensure competition compliance

**Buddy Airport Support**

* Act as an escalation point and support decision making for buddy ports during major disruptions

* Act as mentor for buddy Airport Operations Managers; provide support in performance development and station management through coaching/advising

**E&A**

* Emergency and Accident and Crisis Response responsibilities as required

Requirements

* Bachelors and/or Masters degree in a related field such as airport operations, airport planning and management, operations management, or business administration is desired

* Minimum five (5) years of solid airport operational, airline or related customer handling in travel industry experience, with experience in a leadership capacity

* Excellent command of written and spoken English

* Experience with planning, reviewing and managing budgets and costs with strong analytical/numerical skills

* Up to date knowledge of all regulatory and local legal requirements relating to airport operations and passenger processing

* Superior, demonstrated independent working capabilities to make sound decisions in high pressure situations with command of the different management processes and their importance; from normal operations to disruption or Emergency and Accident contingency situations

* Proven negotiation skills and track record of supplier management in-line with Company policy to involve contract renewal, negotiation, agreeing terms of business, and senior management endorsement

* Self-motivated and committed leader who enjoys teamwork

* Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong service oriented mindset

* Leads, adapts to and embraces constant change

* Ability to thoroughly understand company policies and interpret international regulatory procedures to ensure local compliance

* Ability to think logically and commercially in order to present and justify ideas/findings to a wide variety of audiences that are often culturally diverse

* Broad understanding of the mode of operation of the Company, oneworld partner carriers and other airlines

* High personal presentation as the job-holder is expected to represent the Company at external/internal meetings

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint

* Must have the ability to obtain the necessary security clearance
