Job Description

Performs revenue counting and administrative services for the Transit Department. Sorts and counts paper money using automatic currency-counting machine, including sorting bills according to denomination and inserting bills into slots of machine to be automatically counted. Compares totals registered on currency and coin counting machines to deposits reported, noting any overages or shortages.

Examples of Duties

  • Count all currency, coins, and checks received, by hand or using currency-counting machine, to prepare them for deposit or shipment to branch banks.
  • Assure accuracy of financial records; make sure money has been posted to the correct envelope.
  • Prepare Deposit Slip(s) for bank.
  • Prior work with a 10 key calculator and dealing with large cash and check deposits is a plus but is not required.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality regarding personal contributions.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public and other Borough employees.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Participate in cross-training and serve as back-up for other administrative functions such as answering phone calls, assist walk-in customers, sell bus passes, and print and distribute bus schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work with little supervision, be self-motivated, manage time effectively and solve problems successfully
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, calculators, and standard office equipment (preferred).
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic and have the ability to make computations and tabulations quickly with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to organize work and prioritize in order to meet deadlines, as well as expectations of quality and quantity of work.
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with other employees and the general public, at the level necessary to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to be self-starting, proactive, and a team player.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
  • Must be able to hear.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, lift and maneuver materials (e.g. coin bags) weighing up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

LICENSES:

State of Alaska driver's license (preferred) with an acceptable driving record.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

Any combination of related education and/or related experience will be considered if the candidate possesses the demonstrated ability.
