Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, and the Utility Supervisor, the Janitor has the primary responsibility for cleaning all GoRaleigh facilities which include but are not limited to administration, maintenance, fueling station, bus wash, bus stations, transfer stations, and parking lots. This position is responsible for all interior cleaning to consist of but not be limited to cleaning ceilings walls, floors, restrooms, break rooms, kitchens and maintenance areas. The janitor is responsible for the cleanliness of all buildings and grounds. Janitors will also be responsible for some minor maintenance tasks such light bulb replacements, cleaning vents, and exhaust grills, removing and replacing ceiling tiles, and some bus shelter modifications including trash can installation and glass replacement.

Requirements

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must have and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Ensure all transit stops and shelters are maintained at a high level of cleanliness including but not limited to cleaning debris, trimming, raked, and free of graffiti.
  • Must understand safe janitorial practices, and chemical usage.
  • Pressure washing of shelters and all Go Raleigh Facilities.
  • Work areas maintained according to all OSHA, and EPA regulations.
  • Must be trained and familiar with the safe operation of all GoRaleigh equipment.
  • Experience in interior and exterior janitorial services.
  • Ability to read and follow complex directions.
  • Ability to work without continuous direct supervision.
  • Ability to work outdoors under unfavorable weather conditions (ie. hot or cold)
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, lift, stretch, climb, balance, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Clean and care for buildings and facilities in order to ensure they are maintained in a safe and healthy manner.
  • Responsible for severe weather preparation and clean up. (snow; hurricane etc.)
  • Must maintain discretion and confidentiality when necessary.
  • Be able to identify critical problems and take charge to solve problems. Must be detail/results oriented and capable of working on a team.
  • Follow all hazardous materials procedures and policies.
  • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
  • Use personal protective equipment as trained and required by job function.
  • Be able to read and accurately record a variety of data including chemical usage, mileage, and other record keeping tasks.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Note: It is RATPDevs, expectation that new Janitorial Service Worker employees meet all requirements at the date of employment and throughout their employment.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.
  • Must have and maintain a class C State License


Experience:
  • Commercial cleaning experience is a plus.
  • Experience stripping and waxing floors is a plus.
  • Experience operating carpet extractors is a plus.


Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check.
  • Must not have had any DUI/DWI convictions in the past 60 months.


Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to perform all responsibilities, skills and abilities, including lifting 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather and environment conditions.
