EMT's. Are you looking for a good part time job with a schedule that works around your own schedule? Utah's Hogle Zoo Security department is hiring EMT's for the upcoming season. We offer variable shifts and times. Shifts are 5 hours and you can work anywhere from 5 to 15+ hours per week depending on our department needs. We also have some evening shifts due to events at the zoo. Must be Utah State or National Registry certified or becoming certified by June 1st, 2020. Besides responding to medical calls, you will also be training to perform security related duties. These may include but are not limited to foot patrols, helping with lost kids, enforcing Zoo Rules, handling Security related calls ect. Shifts will start in March and will depend on current weather. Interviews will be conducted between February 10th and 28th.

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of Utah's Hogle Zoo Security Department is to provide a professional level of security to all guests, volunteers, vendors, and staff. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports directly to the Security Supervisor and Security Team Lead

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Foot or bike patrols of the Zoo grounds, parking lots, buildings etc.
  2. Escorting Guest Services personnel at opening and closing to pick up and drop money bags.
  3. Contacting 911 and responding to various calls and related problems.
  4. Monitor various locations for shoplifting and theft. This includes watching school groups.
  5. Provide limited First-Aid to Guests, Staff, Volunteers and others in need.
  6. Proper completion of report forms for incidents and accidents that occur on Zoo grounds.
  7. Help in locating lost children or parents.
  8. Enforcing established Zoo rules.
  9. Assist the public with minor vehicle problems.
  10. When working the closer shift, sweep the zoo and wait until all guests are off grounds.
  11. Take care of other duties and assignments from Zoo Management. i.e., parking buses.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent

State of Utah EMS Certification Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must possess excellent communications skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good attitude and resourcefulness with the ability to work with staff, visitors and volunteers.

Must have the ability to:
  • Commit to Utah's Hogle Zoo's mission.
  • Ability to work under diverse and often harsh weather conditions, varied hours and shifts.
  • Lift over 50 pounds, bend, stoop, jump, stretch and move quickly to avoid dangerous situations.
  • Work under pressure, handle emergency situations, questions and complaints.

Must have a valid driver's license

Work Environment

The incumbent performs in an indoor and outdoor environment, exposure to seasonal elements, dust, and allergens. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, which can include muscular strain. Eye, hand, finger dexterity are required to perform essential functions. Must be able to listen and respond to a handheld radio. Ability to stoop, bend, twist, turn, climb, jump, run when necessary, and move quickly to avoid dangerous situations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
