SUMMARY

The Converting Manager directs and coordinates all activities of a 24hr/day Folding Carton/Paperboard Packaging Cutting, Finishing, and Tooling operations. Leads, develops and champions a Safety-First culture. Develops and implements SOP s within a CI culture designed to reduce operational problems, improve productivity, standardize make-readies, and reduce waste. The Converting Manager will also achieve production KPI s through effective and efficient utilization of resources and materials. Leads, motivates and develops employees to their highest potential while building a culture of respect, performance and continuous improvement the GPA way.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Uses Lean Daily Management to improve operational effectiveness in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, and culture.
  • Oversees the staffing of cutting presses, aerators, stamping presses, and folder gluers.
  • Responsible for all hourly Die Cutting, Tooling, and Finishing department employees.
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversees the daily operation of assigned department work centers and ensures that production efficiencies and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards.
  • Responsible for solving quality and/or production problems.
  • Has overall responsibility for maintenance of equipment and coordinates maintenance requirements to minimize operational impact.
  • Assures the department maintains quality standards and coordinates with Quality / CI team to ensure adherence to customer quality standards.
  • Works to maintain a safe work environment and develops and implements safety procedures to aid in achieving departmental safety goals.
  • Directly involved in responsibilities/actions related to SQF program.
  • Strives to achieve minimum waste of product to meet company EBITDA / Profit goals.
  • Participates in GMP Root Cause and Corrective Actions as required.
  • Assists and consults with pre-production planning on layouts, stripping knives, and structures.
  • Directs and manages tooling/die-makers on daily production needs.
  • Designs embossing and stamping tools and orders from applicable vendors.
  • Orders supplies when necessary.
  • Attends daily production meeting.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES

Supervises in the Cutting, Stamping, Tooling and Finishing departments. Is responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, training, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: assigning work, checking work, discipline, costs, maintaining quality and quantity standards, organizing work, evaluations, prioritizing and delegating work assignments as directed by upper management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
