Job Summary:
- Independently plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure for mother baby patients
- Provides direct nursing care, assumes teaching and leadership responsibilities, and participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities
- Needs minimal supervision
Responsibilities:
- Performs thorough admission assessment, utilizes appropriate interview techniques to obtain history within the time frame of unit policy, and assesses age-specific needs to patient population served
- Assesses barriers to learning and utilizes findings, prioritizes patient needs, and identifies standards of care common to patient population while evaluating data
- Delegates patient care to other team members within their scope of practice, administers medication safely and accurately, and initiates and coordinates patient/family teaching using individualized effective teaching methods
- Evaluates outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met, addresses unresolved needs in discharge planning, and documents clearly and consistently in the EMR
- Uses verbal and nonverbal communication to interact effectively with patients, families, peers, superiors, and physicians, and provides feedback regarding problems and complaints while using chain-of-command for problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Prioritizes patient treatment to best meet patient needs, completes care assignments efficiently, and utilizes resources while familiar with unit-specific policies and procedures
- Activetly assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget
- Attends courses and in-services offered, maintains clinical skills specifically required on the unit, and utilizes security systems for infant and pediatric safety
