As a new Chemical Engineering LaboratoryTechnician, you will set up, maintain, calibrate, test, operate, and repairlaboratory equipment and computer systems; clean, maintain, and preparesupplies and work areas; and set up and validate avariety of laboratory experiments or procedures.

You will assist/instruct faculty andstudents (as well as visitors with summer outreach programs) on the use,operation, and safety of equipment and tools in the laboratory; support facultymembers in their course instruction by giving lectures and demonstrations onthe use of laboratory equipment; and consult with and assist faculty andstudents on research, capstone, and independent projects. You will consult withfaculty members on equipment modifications or needs for use in demonstrations;design and develop teaching aids for use in laboratories and collaborate withfaculty members on the development of experiments for laboratory courses.

You will organize, prepare, andmaintain laboratory procedures manuals; follow/develop safety protocols andprocedures, including departmental procedures for chemical storage, handling,and hazardous waste collection. You will maintain stock rooms, laboratories,prep areas, and other assigned areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition;encourage awareness of and oversee the proper use of facilities and safepractices; act as liaison with Facilities and Environmental Health and Safety.

Qualified candidates will have abachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of professional work experience.Four years of additional experience in lieu of education.

Preferred candidates will haveexperience or the ability to acquire skills through training in areas includingplumbing and pumping systems, electrical systems, computers, data acquisitionand control systems, process equipment and instrumentation, and analytical andmeasurement devices.
