OVERVIEW

Landmark Houston Hospitality Group is dedicated to developing Houston s historically significant properties into stylish hospitality venues for Houstonians and visitors to enjoy. Venues include Hearsay Gastro Lounge located on Market Square, Hearsay on the Green-Downtown and Hearsay on the Strand-Galveston. We also own and operate the fashionable haute 51fifteen Restaurant & Lounge inside of Saks in the Galleria Houston.




JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for the accounting of ten casual dining and one upscale restaurant including posting revenue, cost of sales, payroll & benefits, utilities, and other operating expenses. Maintains Accounting Close Checklist to ensure all accounting tasks are completed for month-end. The incumbent will be responsible for reconciling all balance sheet accounts including evaluating if assets and liabilities are correctly stated. Position will perform fluctuation analysis of significant accounts for current month to prior months to identify accounting errors to correct or operational issues to bring to management s attention.






DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures all accounting entries for recording revenue and receivables, cost of sales and inventory, operating expenses, depreciation and assets are recorded accurately and timely for all restaurants.
  • Ensures all vendor invoices are entered as bills using the invoice date so all expenses are recorded in the proper month. Prepares accruals for restaurant bonuses, insurance expense, and other goods and services incurred not billed.
  • Ensures balance sheet accounts are reconciled accurately and timely and submitted to management for review for all assigned restaurants.
  • Performs fluctuation analysis of operating statement and balance sheet accounts for current month to prior months to identify accounting errors to correct or operational issues to bring to management s attention.
  • Contacts restaurant management to confirm equipment additions and dispositions and updates asset accounts and depreciation expense.
  • Maintains Accounting Close Checklist listing all accounting tasks and ensures all tasks are assigned and scheduled so the accounting for all assigned restaurants is completed within 10 business days of month-end.
  • Performs comparative analysis of menu pricing, cost of sales items, personnel costs, and other operating expenses to identify areas of opportunity and improvement.
  • Provides external auditors with requested client assistance including business process flow, financial process documentation, balance sheet account reconciliations, fluctuation analysis, and supplemental financial schedules for annual audits.
  • Uses professional and ethical judgement and critical thinking when performing all duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • College Degree in Accounting, Finance or Information Technology or equivalence
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred.
  • Restaurant Accounting experience required 4 plus years preferred.
  • Accounting experience required 6 plus years preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in accounting rules for accrual accounting and asset accounting, restaurant point of sale systems, and restaurant operating processes.
  • Toast POS system experience preferred
  • QuickBooks experience preferred
  • MS Office Suite proficiency required
  • Bilingual Language proficiency in English and Spanish required







QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to communicate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting system functionality, accounting procedures, restaurant operating processes, and Point of Sale systems to management and restaurant personnel.
  • Must understand restaurant operating processes and system functionality, and apply accounting and business knowledge, and mathematical concepts in analysis and resolution of problems.
  • Must be proficient or become proficient in Microsoft Office applications, QuickBooks application and related subsystems, and database applications.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks, receive guidance and work independently, identify key objectives, be action-oriented, achieve operating goals, and display ethics and values in all actions.





EDUCATION

  • Bachelor s degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred.
