Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Development team as a Development events/Walk4Hearing Assistant Manager. This position helps advance community engagement in the mission of HLAA through raising funds, recruiting and partnering with volunteers, program development and support.


The primary responsibility is to assist with implementation of HLAA s Walk4Hearing events in designated geographic areas, while working closely with volunteers, teams and partners, to meet participation and fundraising goals, and create impactful events. Walk4Hearing is our community of support in action, connecting and empowering people with hearing loss to thrive.


The Assistant Manager will:


  • Organize designated Walk4Hearing events in cooperation with local HLAA Chapters and Walk committees, including planning timelines, budgeting, timelines, program agendas, logistics and event feedback and evaluation.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including venue selection, permits, equipment rentals, securing of speakers and entertainment and event setup.
  • Recruit, cultivate and support volunteer leaders and committees to reach event goals.
  • Identify and develop relationships with potential event sponsors and other community partners, including businesses, schools, hearing professionals, health care providers and government health offices.
  • Achieve fundraising, participation and retention goals through engagement and solicitation of sponsors and fundraising efforts of partners and teams, and by providing volunteers with fundraising guidance and support.
  • Contribute to marketing and promotional strategies to increase awareness of HLAA and Walk4Hearing, and to generate public interest and media attention for events.
  • Develop fundraising communication campaigns and timelines, including a digital and social media strategy to support local Walk events.
  • Develop recognition activities to honor top fundraisers and donors.
  • Ensure that funds raised are directed timely to local partners, and that stories of impact are shared with the community.
  • Maintain accurate data records and assist constituents with our DonorDrive fundraising platform and other fundraising tools.
  • Utilize HLAA s CRM system (Raiser s Edge NXT) as a resource for donor information and prospective Walk participants.
  • Develop a current knowledge of hearing health and hearing loss issues and HLAA initiatives.
  • Promote HLAA and ensure its mission is integrated into fundraising activities and volunteer engagement.
  • Assist the Walk4Hearing Senior Manager in areas as needed to ensure the success of the Walk4Hearing program.


Education and Experience:

Bachelor s degree or equivalent education and experience.

2-3 years of related experience in nonprofit fundraising or community building, including events, sponsorship recruitment or volunteer engagement.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Desire to collaborate and contribute to a growing development program.
  • Strong relationship building skills, a positive outlook, and commitment to working as a team.
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships and flexibility to work with a variety of people with different styles and personalities.
  • Effective writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently while handling multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high level attention to details.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and ability to utilize fundraising platforms and data systems to track participation and engagement.
  • Experience working with volunteer committees a plus.


Work Environment:

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Travel and some weekend and/or evening work are required. Travel to HLAA walk cities and the annual convention is also required.
