One Fair Wage is an organization seeking to raise wages, enhance working conditions in the
service sector, and end all subminimum wages in the United States. With the Great Resignation,
millions of workers are refusing to work for subminimum wages, employers are raising wages to
recruit staff, and the political landscape to advance policy to raise wages has changed
dramatically.
In Massachusetts, One Fair Wage is seeking to advance the One Fair Wage policy as a ballot
initiative in November 2024. To achieve this, MA One Fair Wage is hiring paid canvassers to
collect signatures to put the One Fair Wage initiative on the ballot in November, in support of
reaching our goal of 20,000 signatures. Paid canvassers would report to the signature drive field
manager.
The candidate will be responsible for collecting and reporting legitimate signatures for the One
Fair Wage petition, actively promoting One Fair Wage, and interacting with the public to build
support and understanding for the cause. The role requires excellent communication, resilience,
and a strong understanding of the campaign's goals, ensuring a strong representation and
effectiveness in driving the campaign forward.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collect signatures: Approach individuals in public places, such as parks, shopping
centers, or events, and explain the purpose and importance of the petition. Encourage
them to sign the petition, ensuring they meet the eligibility criteria and provide accurate
information.
Understand the issue: Stay informed about the One Fair Wage ballot initiative and
clearly communicate it to the public. Address any questions or concerns they may have
and provide factual information to support the cause.
Document and organize signatures: Accurately record the details of each signatory,
including their name, address, contact information, and any additional required
information. Ensure that the collected signatures are organized and stored securely.
Meet targets: Work towards achieving daily and weekly signature collection targets.
Display self-motivation and determination to meet or exceed set goals while maintaining
quality and accuracy in signature collection.
Petition Submission: Submit collected signatures to city and town clerks before
deadlines, ensuring they are organized and properly formatted according to the
requirements. Collect certified signatures from local clerks to bring to the central OFW
office in Boston.
Required Qualifications
Reliably commute to collect and submit signatures. The central office is located in
downtown Boston, but the signature collection will be throughout MA.
Strong ability to connect with people and make pitch to collect signatures and build
rapport quickly.
Persuasive and ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ethical and able to adhere to legal guidelines and regulations.
Physical stamina to stand or walk for extended periods and work in various weather
conditions.
Past experience as a service worker, and have worked in the restaurant industry in the
last 3-5 years; or is a worker member of a workers organization interested in working in
the restaurant industry
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and interest in the cause or issue addressed by the petition
Ability to speak a language other than English
Previous experience in advocacy, community organizing, or similar roles is desirable but
not mandatory.
Job Details
This position is an independent contractor position at $25/hour
The position will last for the duration of the signature drive from May 1, 2024, to June 16,
2024, with potential to extend to June 30, 2024.
