Heavy Equipment Operator (Asphalt Construction)


Job Details

The Heavy Equipment Operator position will begin in Dodge City, KS, and requires extended travel and work throughout the Midwest (e.g. Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Nebraska).

  • $20-22.75/hour
  • Daily overtime after 8 hours
  • Per Diem Benefits

Primary Function

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment on a construction job site in a safe manner. Heavy equipment may include front-end loaders, rollers, bulldozers, scrapers, blades, pavers, trimmers, mixers, skid steer, or compactors. Heavy Equipment Operators will work with GPS systems, including Leica and Trimble. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also complete prestart checks, assist with fluid checks and maintenance, secure the equipment, clean, and other duties as directed by the Foreman or Division Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner according to company policy, as well as manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Performing daily maintenance & safety checks.
  • Cleaning equipment as required.
  • Ensuring that equipment is secured at the end of the shift.
  • Must foster harmonious interactions and relationships and maintain basic standards of civility in the workplace.

Working Conditions

  • Ascend/descend a ladder 8-10 feet to access the equipment operating station.
  • Keep equipment moving along the specified path to ensure equipment is processing material to the required specifications.
  • Remove excess built-up material at the end of the shift using a scraper and shovel. Periodically, the operator may need to use a jack or chipping hammers.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by Foreman or Division Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen with a "Negative" result.
  • Must be able to complete a post-offer physical with a "Capable" result.
