Description

Adventure Camp Counselors implement daily camp schedule focusing on developing sports skills in a fun environment for children ages 8-13. They are responsible for the personal care, safety and discipline of campers. Camp Counselors also maintain proper staff child ratios and know all emergency procedures. Counselors must be adept at problem solving, adapting to change, and innovative thinking, and proficient at delivering exceptional customer service. Counselors must be able to work entire summer from late May 29th - August 2nd, Monday through Friday.

  • Must enthusiastically represent OKCBF by displaying a positive attitude, high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
  • Group supervision of campers as assigned with attention to all of the following: health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, and character and skill development.
  • Be concerned for the social adjustment of each camper.
  • Assure that campers are properly supervised at all times.
  • Help campers plan, carry out, and evaluate projects and activities.
  • Confer and maintain a positive relationship with parents, and communicate necessary information in a professional manner.
  • Teach or assist with camp programs and encourage camper participation.
  • Demonstrate self-control, personal habits, health, dress, speech, and relationships with other staff that serve as a beneficial model to campers.
  • Work with the Adventure Camp Coordinator and other OKCBF staff to iron out difficulties that may arise during camp.
  • Greet, acknowledge, and interact with all RIVERSPORT guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Adventure Camp Coordinator and Director of Paddlesports.


Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent, or at least 17 years of age.
  • Must have current CPR certification; or be willing to obtain certification prior to start date.
  • Able to communicate effectively in a professional manner with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, vendors, and most importantly the campers.
  • Teamwork mentality an absolute must-have.
  • Able to learn and understand all policies and procedures pertinent to the department and the functions of the job.
  • Able to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Able to work effectively independently as well as with a group.
  • Able to learn, comprehend, and enforce OKCBF policies and procedures.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.

  • Ability to be outdoors for long periods of time, in a summer setting.
  • Able to stand, walk, crouch, crawl, kneel, or stoop.
  • Able to walk quickly to/from job locations up to 1 (one) kilometer distance.
  • Able to walk at a specified pace for up to (8) hours. Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds Must have the ability to restrain and physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities (child weighing 50 - 200 pounds).
  • Must have good hearing and visual acuity to observe equipment, OKCBF guests, etc.
  • Able to speak to give campers verbal instructions.
