The region is widely known as an outdoor recreational paradise for campers, boaters, cyclists, climbers, cavers and hikers, all this while being conveniently located within two hours of Atlanta, Nashville and Knoxville.

Summary:

The Property Maintenance Groundskeeper is responsible to the Campus Grounds Supervisor for general campus landscaping, lawn care, and seasonal maintenance needs.

Responsibilities:

  • To work with, and assist the Grounds staff in their daily duties.
  • Consider the other staff, faculty and residents we serve by practicing cleanliness and orderliness in all work areas.
  • Maintain campus/athletic field turf areas - mowing, trimming, cleaning up debris, etc.
  • Maintain flower beds and shrubs - weeding, pruning, planting, etc.
  • Work with Grounds crew on special projects and tasks.

Requirements:
  • Landscaping and general lawn maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge in using mowers, weed eaters, rakes, shovels, etc.
  • Enjoy working outside.
  • Able to work independently; self-motivated.
  • Able to work 40 to 45 hours per week.

Physical Work Environment:
  • This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily outdoors or in maintenance facilities and occasionally in a professional office environment.
  • There is a mix of sitting, stooping, bending and standing while operating equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work in environments where grass, plants, flowers, pollen, etc. are present, without diminished capacity due to allergies.
  • Able to distinguish between colors and have sufficient hearing to work safely and cooperatively.
  • Classified as heavy, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas, directions and conversation using spoken and written English fluently.
  • Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, as job duties demand.
  • Travel is not required for this position other than for occasional training or professional advancement opportunities.
