Under the direction of the Operations Manager and the Food Service Supervisors the group leader performs the duties of a food service worker while serving as a resource for other staff and customers.

Responsibilities:
  • 1. Monitors to ensure cleaning and sanitation requirements are followed by all employees. Reports any deviation from policies or regulations to a supervisor.
  • 2. Monitors infection control practices, such as the wearing of proper uniform, hair nets, gloves, and other departmental dress code requirements.
  • 3. Inspects all work areas to ensure cleanliness and sanitation compliance and reports any discrepancies to a Food Service Supervisor.
  • 4. Acts as a resource for staff and identifies and communicates any issues or questions to Food Service Supervisor or Manager.
  • 5. Participates in the work activities of the team as assigned (e.g. salad bar, deli, hot line, register).
  • 6. Provides excellent customer service to staff, visitors and patients. Responds to customer requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • 7. Monitors to ensure that safety rules are followed, materials and equipment are safely stored and that unsafe working conditions are reported to Food Service Supervisor or Manager.
  • 8. Safely operates all equipment according to manufacturer specification.
  • 9. Demonstrates proper work behavior and attitude.
  • 10. Enhances growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops, as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor or Manager.
  • 11. Participates in facility-wide and department performance improvement programs in relation to Patient Services.
  • 12. Visits patients throughout the hospital. Helps to ensure every patient is visited by a member of the Food & Nutrition Supervisory team at least once during their hospital stay.
  • 13. Updates Digestible Data Board weekly based on Press Ganey scores. Reviews Press Ganey Scores & Comments weekly with Management Team.
  • 14. Conducts the following audits to ensure Patient Services Standards are being obtained (daily): Shadow Reports, Test Trays
  • 15. Assists in scheduling weekly Power Plates with Nursing units throughout hospital. Attends Power Plate, Tally's results and provides to Management Team
  • 16. Attends weekly Patient Experience System-wide Conference Call. Provides suggestions & feedback to capture and explore opportunities to improve the Patient Experience & Press Ganey Scores.
  • 17. Assists contracted food service management team in building relationships with hospital nursing units & staff
  • 18. Performs allergy alert tray checks. Assists in Service Recoveries with Patients.
  • 19. Complies with dietary restrictions on special or modified diets to ensure optimal food preferences are met within guidelines of diet order limitations.
  • 20. Delivers Patient ASAP & VIP Trays on occasion.
  • 21. Ensures tray monitor system is running optimally and ensures patient meals are delivered within a timely manner.
  • 22. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
  • 23. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.


Qualifications:

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum one-two (1-2) years experience in a food service environment, minimum one (1) year in a supervisory capacity preferred.

LICENSURE

Not applicable

SPECIAL SKILLS

Knowledge of food safety, and healthcare food services knowledge preferred. Experience with relationship building between clinical & non-clinical staff within a hospital setting required. Able to read, write and speak English; able to perform simple mathematical calculations to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
