Facility Maintenance Technician

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The facility maintenance tech performs facility maintenance as well as repair and preventative maintenance of building, equipment, facility and outside grounds for the YMCA Branch and other manual and semi-skilled work in one or more trades. Will be responsible for staying with budgeted labor supplies, equipment, and related services/ material required for cost efficient operations. Must be able to provide a safe and clean environment for members, program participants, and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform general, routine maintenance duties including monitor HVAC equipment, read gauges and meters, pool maintenance, back wash and filter change
  2. Ensures all facilities, grounds and equipment are fully operational and inspected in accordance with preventative schedules.
  3. Ensure the safe and proper functioning of equipment
  4. Identify and report malfunctions or emergencies
  5. Responsible for maintaining existing lighting, replacing ballasts and repairing fixtures
  6. Participate in preventative maintenance program
  7. Record daily maintenance and repair logs
  8. Collects information on cost estimates for facilities renovations, expansions, or space allocations and inspects completed work for conformance of specifications.
  9. Assist skilled trades by performing semi-skilled tasks for the care and maintenance of buildings and grounds
  10. Manages maintenance and upkeep of equipment in regards to warranty, calibration service, or preventive maintenance agreements.
  11. Interfaces with system contractors on utilities and maintenance to determine needs, develop plans and resolve problems within the facility.
  12. Advises senior management of availability of various items and cost of services needed to operate the facility.
  13. Maintains the general day-to-day work life and appearance of the Recreational Facilities.
  14. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A High School Diploma or GED is required; however, a Technical degree is highly preferred.
  2. Must have 2-3 years of prior experience in facility management.
  3. Requires knowledge in general and system preventive maintenance in the areas of service, security, mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, carpentry and grounds maintenance.
  4. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  5. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  6. Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications, Defensive Driving, Child Abuse Prevention, and Appropriate Touch.
  7. Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
  8. Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license, and the ability to drive to other locations in the San Antonio and surrounding areas.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  2. Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  3. Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  4. Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  5. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  6. Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi - reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
