Position Summary

The Communications Manager works closely with the Communications Committee and Congregational Life Minister to develop and implement a communications strategy that shares Brown Memorial s mission and message with parishioners and the wider community. This is a part-time position (20 hrs/wk) with benefits in a hybrid work environment.

Reports to: Congregational Life Minister

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Communication Committee throughout the year to develop and implement all communications with members, including virtual attendees
  • Manage and edit all print and electronic communications
  • Manage and edit the church s website, updating regularly
  • Work with BMPA staff to identify the voice of BMPA and develop and maintain a communications strategy, ensuring that BMPA s voice is reflected in all communications including email, print (e.g., bulletin, newsletter), web, social, and paid advertising
  • Assist in the development of BMPA s editorial calendar, incorporating church and community events that support strategic priorities and mission identity
  • Design publications (electronic and print), including Annual Report and quarterly newsletter
  • Oversee social media engagement (crafting and planning content, posting, and tracking posts across various social media platforms). Respond to comments and user content.
  • Develop advertising and awareness strategy

Education Required: Bachelor s degree

Experience/Skills Desired:

  • 2-3 years related experience
  • Demonstrated superior written skills for a variety of formats (print, email, web)
  • Proven marketing skills
  • Experience managing website content
  • Proficiency in graphic design skills and software, including Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva
  • Success with managing and performing projects in a multi-tasking environment
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team (including with volunteers)
  • Proficiency with social media platforms
  • Ability to think creatively, while also understanding the big picture
  • Warm, empathetic, curious, and helpful

Work Environment:

This position is part-time, 20 hours per week. Brown has a focus on creating a healthy work-life balance through flexible work options including a hybrid work environment, which includes work hours at home and in the Bolton Hill office Attendance at additional events may be needed, to be determined in discussion with the supervisor.

Salary and Benefits:

Commensurate with experience and abilities. A generous benefits package is also available and includes contributions toward health insurance and a retirement plan, paid sick leave, and paid time off.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

Office environment requiring: sitting for prolonged periods of time, light package lifting, and repetitive keyboard use. Physical requirements to be met with or without reasonable accommodation.
