Malvern Treatment Centers is currently seeking a full-time Patient Access Liaison for our brand new inpatient units located in South Philadelphia The Patient Access Liaison is a full-time opportunity working Monday through Friday during our day shift hours. This position offers a competitive hourly rate as well as a comprehensive benefits package.

Position Summary: An experienced healthcare professional who will research/verify, patient healthcare coverage, benefits. As well as, payer requirements for reimbursement. This person will pull coverage and benefits information from EVS, NaviNet and Other Insurance Portals, and when necessary call the insurance company to confirm the most current Active/Inactive coverage and benefit details. Also, when applicable confirm authorizations requirements and any other specific requirements for reimbursement. They will discuss with patients their insurance coverage and benefit details and collect any Out of Pocket (OOP/patient responsibility/Coinsurances/Deductibles). Enter coverage, benefits and authorizations requirement detail into the Patient/Computer system and update the Billing, Utilization Management, and Financial departments on the reimbursement/coverage details.

Summary of Essential Position Functions:

  • Extensive time of communication via phone with patients/responsible parties, Insurance providers and/or managed care companies
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and call center related business
  • Accurate data entry of insurance/benefit and payer requirement information into computer system
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients and families
  • Verifies insurance benefits to make sure plan is active and has no termination date showing in the immediate future, as well as verifies any financial obligations such as deductibles, co-insurance, and co-pays that the patient would be responsible for.
  • Communicates with supervisor on admissions that need payment plans for admissions.
  • Explains the insurance benefits and out of pocket costs associated with treatment. Educates patient and their family in regard to financial obligations from the Insurance Benefit Plan that the patient has (Coinsurance/Deductibles). Collects necessary payment and gets financial paperwork signed by payer.
  • Maintain clear communication with patients as well as insurance companies and other inhouse departments
  • Calculate cash estimates on the patients Out of Pocket (OOP/patient responsibility/Coinsurances/Deductibles).
  • Upfront collections of the patients' Out of Pocket (OOP/patient responsibility/Coinsurances/Deductibles).
  • Concisely, and accurately document all information on the account and scan documents into the patients' account.
  • If patient is a prior patient, checks billing system for prior balances. Explains prior balances to patient and works the patient on payment plan for prior patient activity balances.
  • Assist with pre-certification/ authorizations
  • As needed, answer phone for incoming calls, make outgoing calls to assist the Call Center
  • Participates in continuing education (in- services & other trainings) to reach professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Malvern Institutes vision and values

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required, bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of addictive diseases preferred. Healthcare, Admissions, Insurance experience a plus.

Technical/Computer Skills: MS Office, billing software, telephone, and other office equipment.

Work Environment and Hazards: No hazardous conditions. Weather protected.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work - lifting 10 lbs. maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as patient charts, binders, letters, and small tools. Involves sitting and a certain amount of walking and standing occasionally to carry out job duties. Communication is required. Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and hearing, perceiving the nature of sounds by the ear, is required.
