Position Overview:

J. Crew is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Professional to join our team at our distribution center in Lynchburg, VA. As a Safety Professional, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and the efficient operation of our distribution center. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and programs to minimize workplace hazards and promote a culture of safety. You will collaborate closely with management, employees, and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance with safety standards and foster a safe work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and initiatives in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and best practices.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the distribution center to identify potential safety hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to establish and enforce safety rules, policies, and procedures throughout the facility.
  • Provide guidance and training to employees on safety protocols, proper equipment usage, and emergency response procedures.
  • Investigate and analyze accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop strategies to prevent their recurrence. Maintain accurate records of safety incidents and prepare reports for management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new regulations, and emerging safety technologies, and make recommendations for continuous improvement of safety practices.
  • Conduct safety orientations for new hires and contractors, ensuring they are aware of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness by organizing safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and other educational initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and participate in safety-related inspections, audits, and investigations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs through data analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs). Make recommendations for improvements based on findings.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field or relevant experience. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional) are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a safety professional in a distribution center or similar environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse and distribution center operations, processes, and equipment.
  • Ability to conduct thorough safety inspections, identify hazards, and propose effective control measures.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train, educate, and influence employees at all levels.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build strong working relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in using safety management systems, incident reporting tools, and other relevant software applications.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, with a strong commitment to promoting a culture of safety.
