**Tin House Publicity Assistant**

Salary: $33,000

Location: Portland, OR **Responsibilities for the position include:**

-Assist with Tin House media campaigns as assigned: write pitch letters, perform online research to acquire media and influencer contacts, and draft mailing lists

-Assist with scheduling, content, and copywriting social media posts, while maintaining content calendars and providing regular reports on conversions/sales and engagement

-Assist with author events and tours, creating detailed author itineraries, including coordination of travel, hotel accommodations and car service for touring authors, and conduct event follow-up

-Conduct social media influencer campaigns

-Facilitate Tin House GalleyClub early readers program

-Manage awards submissions

-Provide general administrative support, including managing in-bound email/phone publicity requests, ordering mailing supplies, coordinating & conducting galley and finished book mailings, creating and facilitating online meetings, creating and maintaining press releases via InDesign, processing expense reports and invoices, taking notes in meetings, etc.**Qualifications:**

-A demonstrated interest in literary book publishing with a focus on publicity, including interacting with the press and the general literary community

-Is extremely detail-oriented with superior written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills

-Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Office Suite

-Proficiency in social media platforms

-Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software, especially in InDesign

-Enthusiasm for participating in and contributing to a small, creative, and supportive office

-Self-directed and quick to take initiative, while also possessing demonstrated ability to work well with others on a team

-Commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the multifaceted work of book publicity through an equity lens

**Compensation and Benefits**

The benefits package for this position includes health, dental, and vision insurance, three weeks of paid vacation, a Simple IRA after 1 year of employment, and flexible PTO. The starting salary is $33,000. Due to COVID-19, this position will work remotely until September 1, 2021 when our headquarters in Portland, OR will reopen. **Overview:**

Tin House Books seeks a Publicity Assistant to join the team promoting our award-winning fiction, non-fiction and poetry titles. This position reports directly to our Publicity Director and works closely with our Marketing and Editorial Departments. The ideal candidate will have an interest in building relationships within the book publishing, media and influencer communities, excellent attention to detail, and a desire for hands-on learning about the publicity process in book publishing. The candidate will help grow media and consumer attention for titles and authors through traditional and emerging media platforms, including TV, radio, print, online and social outlets. They will help at every stage of publicity campaigns.

**Tin House Workshop Manager**

Location: Portland, OR; Remote **Overview:**

Tin House Workshop seeks a Workshop Manager to join the team leading our renowned workshops, craft intensives, and residencies. The candidate will help expand programming and support leadership in meeting the needs of our diverse and growing literary community. Working closely with our Director and Assistant Director, the Workshop Manager will assist in running our mission-driven programs, including our in-person and online workshops, and help implement policies and programming through the lens of the workshops stated core values. This position places a strong emphasis on reading and evaluating applications. The ideal candidate is interested in engaging with emerging writers and fostering equitable practices that allow all participants to flourish. This listing is open to remote work or in-person when our offices in Portland, OR open up again. All candidates must commit to being in Portland three times a year for our in-person workshops. This position will start on September 1st. **Responsibilities for the position include:**

-Read and evaluate applications across genres, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, YA, and graphic narrative.

-Help select award winners and collaborate in creating new programming and scholarship opportunities.

-Assist in organizing and running workshops and programming.

-Host online and in-person events throughout the year.

-Administer online platforms for workshop participants.

-Manage workshop billing and contracts.

-Assist in social media marketing campaigns and postings.

-Contribute to ongoing discussions and internal/external policies related to equity and the decentering of whiteness within workshop spaces and publishing.**Qualifications:**

-A commitment to equity and inclusivity and a history of advocating for emerging and underrepresented voices is mandatory for this position.

-Avid reader of work by contemporary authors in various genres and knowledge of current literary journals/websites.

-Displays confidence evaluating written work.

-Evidence of familiarity with Tin House Workshops and enthusiasm for our programs.

-Ability to have sustained and focused reading for long stretches of the day.

-A background in literary or community organizing.

-Familiarity with current discussions of workshop ethics and best practices.

-Experience in running or attending workshops or similar types of conferences.

-Proven ability to work independently and under deadlines.

-Open to working some weekends (with compensated time-off) during conferences and being present for three in-person workshops in Portland.

-Familiarity with Google Workplace, Quickbooks, and Submittable.

-Established relationships with the writing community in Portland considered a plus. **Compensation and Benefits**
