Job Description

Staff pharmacy managers are responsible for overseeing the data entry, data review, and dispensing processes that occur during the midnight shift within the pharmacy. They ensure that all relevant information is being entered into the system correctly and on time, which helps to ensure accuracy and efficiency. They collaborate and communicate a plan for workflow to ensure timely preparation and delivery of drug orders.


Staff pharmacy managers may also be tasked with developing and implementing training programs for staff working on the midnight shift. This ensures that everyone knows how to properly enter data into the system, how to prepare drug orders efficiently and accurately for dispensation and understands any rules or standards that apply to specific accounts, or products.


Staff pharmacy managers will be under the direct report of the Director of Pharmacy. Scheduling of this position is to be determined by the needs of the pharmacy and is subject to change at any time.


Requirements

  • active Indiana Pharmacist License in good standing with the Indiana Board of Pharmacy.
  • position requires standing and walking or sitting in a chair for majority of their shift, depending on workflow assignment.
  • position requires the ability to bend at the waist, pick items off the floor, reach above the head, and to lift 10 lbs.
  • position requires interpreting drug orders and entering data into a company system using a keyboard and mouse.
  • position requires the use of a headset to make and receive phone calls from clients, and to communicate using the English-speaking language.


Equipment

Management is provided a Company cell phone and laptop to facilitate communication and access to pharmacy systems when away from the pharmacy. Management is expected to maintain equipment charged and in working order.


Job Duties

Staff pharmacy manager typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

Leading with a positive attitude that increases employee morale, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude towards the Company

Collaborating with Leadership staff in the planning and execution of daily workflow goals.

Assisting in the development and recommendation for controlling pharmacy operating costs

Reviewing reports, nServices, and metrics to determine if there are any issues with accuracy or quality of work.

Providing insight to client inquiries regarding tasks completed within the areas you are responsible for.

Reviewing and approving new policies and procedures that affect the work or staff within the areas of which you are responsible.

Facilitating weekly department standups and meetings to communicate any changes/updates to the staff

Training new employees on how to use the equipment necessary to complete their work tasks.

Performing audits of procedures as necessary to ensure that they are being performed correctly by staff

Scheduling of technicians within the areas of which you are responsible. The scheduling system is maintained up to date. Ensuring appropriate documentation for variances in shifts are properly noted, timely.

Reviewing employee productivity to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy

Ensuring physical and electronic workspaces are organized in a manner that allows for the most efficient workflow

Ensuring staff are keeping workspaces tidy and clean during and after completing tasks.

Reporting progress to Direct Report regarding performance goals and deadlines and identify areas of concern.

Understanding and enforcing Company policies with staff

Participating in the interviewing and on-boarding of new staff

Ensuring all employee records are updated in a timely manner.

Performing other duties as assigned by Direct Report


Management On-Call Responsibilities

This position participates in the On-Call Manager weekly rotation. The on-call schedule is determined and agreed upon by all members of the 'On-Call Manager' team. The 'On-Call Manager' will be assigned to handle management emergencies which include, but are not limited to, call offs, system problems, workflow concerns, fax or phone lines down, maintenance concerns, and weather concerns.
